Good week overall...but brace yourself for the weeks between now and the Columbus day weekend. With the 2 big Jewish holidays in there we are going to see some lean weeks.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Just me, or did the Burn the Floor team shoot themselves in the foot a bit when they announced the extension to January? Their numbers have been so far off since Karina and Maks left, and I wonder if that could have been somewhat offset by keeping the run announced as limited for a bit longer, perhaps until Dancing with the Stars is back on the air?
Other than that, I'm just looking forward to there being more shows on this list soon. There's so little running right now--I need new things to see!
Great week
Pleased to see N2N jump up again, and its nice 9 to 5 went out on kind of a high

Next week I'll be afraid to look at "Shrek's" grosses since summer is over and kids are back at school. They will most likely have weeks where they'll have $500,000 or less. Hopefully, some fresh faces like Be Crawford and whoever will replace Daniel Breaker will bring some crowds in like Scarlett Starllen and Adam Fiorentino did with "Mary Poppins."
It's nice that "9 to 5" went out with a jump in sales and attendance.

Those people you listed are not known at all. I highly doubt the replacements in Shrek will help it a lot

What I meant was that people who live in NYC and see a show lot's of times may want to see new faces after seeing the same ones for while. The reguolar theatregoers in NYC who saw Ashley Borwn and Gavin Lee more than once may have wanted to see what new people bring to the roles. The same may go for the people who kep going back to see "Shrek"
If "Shrek" is still open next summer it may also receive a big boost from the new film, "Shrek Forever After."
Next week should be a very telling week gross-wise.
I am shocked at Wicked. What's up with those 108 seats? Every time I've tried to get lottery tickets they've been bombarded.
Hopefully, some fresh faces like Be Crawford and whoever will replace Daniel Breaker will bring some crowds in like Scarlett Starllen and Adam Fiorentino did with "Mary Poppins.
Scarlett Strallen and Adam Fiorentino aren't bringing in any crowds. 99% of the ticket buyers to Mary Poppins have not a clue who either of them are, and frankly, don't care.
I am starting to worry about Wicked. I have a site where I can get 65 dollar tickets for the show for performances starting January 20th.

Like I said in my previous post. There are people who live in NYC and see a show lot's of times and may want to see new faces after seeing the same ones for while. The people who saw Ashley and Gavin many times may have wanted to see what new people bring to the roles.
That still doesn't make a difference. I saw the Little Mermaid 7 times. Everytime a new performer came in I didn't necessarily go back to see it(and now regretting the fact that I missed Hiedi as Ursula).
And I've seen Shrek 3 times and I don't NEED to go back to see these new cast members, although I would go back if Haven Burton becomes Fiona once Sutton leaves. If anything, I am going before they leave.

I am starting to worry about Wicked.
Are you being serious?
Updated On: 9/8/09 at 04:46 PM
No. By now it's gotta recoup it's original investment 100x over again.
No one should be worried about WICKED. It is one of the very, very few shows that has absolutely NOTHING to worry about.
Wicked is obviously closing soon.
it think they realized that the fall season will be a brutal season and attendance might dip below 90%, so they just announced they'll be closing on Sept. 20
Does anyone know WSS's initial investment? And/or their weekly nut?
And I'm not talking about a random shot in the dark. I'm wondering if anyone really knows for sure.
WSS = 14 million
I would say their nut is anywhere from 600k to 750K

"I would say their nut is anywhere from 600k to 750K"
Oy.
The budget really was 14 million, however.
What happened to West Side Story recently.
23 understudies.
