I love Karmine Alers' new album and Alice and Emily's albums so which other Broadway/London actors CDs should I buy? I'm mainly after show tunes but any recommendations are helpful. For example, I love Anthony Rapp so am definitely going to buy his CD this week, same with Matt Caplan.

At the moment I am going to check out: Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald (does she have solo releases?), Bernadette Peters and Kristen Chenoweth. I don't really like Idina's solo stuff, same with Heather Headley. Ideas for male singers are helpful too - I absolutely love Billy Porter's CDs. Basically, anything goes but special love of belting/belters, show tunes and simply amazing peeps (Monsieur Rapp).

Thank you!

How about Adam Pascal, Sherie Rene Scott, and Michael Ball? Michael Ball has a bunch in the style I believe you're talking about.

I know Audra McDonald has a beautiful solo recording called How Glory Goes. Definitely get your hans on anything that says Bernadette Peters and if you can get her concert on DVD you should, it's the most astonishing concert. Brent Barret's Kander and Ebb album is excellent as well, especially if you like Kander & Ebb (composers of Chicago,Cabaret,The Rink,Kiss of the Spider Woman, etc)

I have Sherie Rene Scott's album, it's alright. I have heard some of Adam Pascal's stuff too. I shall check them out. And I'm excited about the Brent Barrett CD. Stupid me forgot about Michael Ball but he's not my fave voice. Thanks though everyone! Any more?

Liza Minnelli has great albums but that might not be in the style you're looking for. Ruthie Henshall has some good solo albums, although for some reason I believe The Ruthie Henshall album is out of print, I might be confused though. If you like the cabaret scene, Ute Lemper (Original Velma in London version of Chicago revival, played Sally Bowles in France, NYC cabaret scene) has some great solo albums, I believe she has a Sondheim album called A Hundred Other People and another album in which she performs Kurt Weill (Threepenny Opera) and Kander & Ebb. Barbara Cook also has very good solo recordings, but again, it might not be the style you're looking for. Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews both have good albums, and I believe Barbara Streisand's The Broadway Album is a must-have.

if you like a more "rock-edge" then of course I'm going to recommend checking out Daphne Rubin-Vega's first cd "souveniers" (available at the broadwayscares website) and to keep an eye out for her new cd "Redemption Songs" that will be out very soon. She also has some dance music out (the "Rocket Man" maxi single is worth checking out) if you're into that. She writes some really great stuff.

The typical stuff, yeah get Bernadette Peters solo stuff but her latest one really doesn't do anything for me (the rodgers and hammerstein recording) and Megan Mullally has two really amazing cds out.

have fun.

Keep an eye out for Gavin Creel's debut album. He doesn't have a label yet, so no release date is set, but it should hopefully drop sometime this year.

mentaltenant: I did read your post but you'd written "broadwayscares" which I thought was some bizarro theatre in-joke.

I did look on amazon. But thank you for making it clear.

Attendthetale: I absolutely love JRB's album. Thanks! It's good recommendation and just the type of thing I was looking for.

Colleen: I am a huge fan of Gavin Creel and am awaiting his album with baited breath.

Michael Ball has two solo albums of musical theatre material ( great selections, including songs meant for stage divas such as WITH ONE LOOK) called THE MUSICALS and CENTRE STAGE.

http://www.michaelball.co.uk/music/musicals.htm

http://www.michaelball.co.uk/music/centre_stage.htm

Also, his show ALONE TOGETHER ( at the Donmar Warehouse), released on DVD, features quite a number of songs from the stage, not just Broadway -from Jolson to Guettel! He has a number of DVDs which also feature some great selections from musicals. He was actually the first one to release the title song of SUNSET BOULEVARD, even before the London OCR with Patti Lupone and Kevin Anderson was released.

What kind of music do Megan Mullally, Adam Pascal, and Anthony Rapp sing on their solos?

Question: Will Esparza win for The Homecoming? BobbyBubby: I hope so. If only for the mental health of many people on this board.
