Not sure if someone's mentioned this but the always questionable winners of The Broadway.com Awards have been announced.
If you don't like The Color Purple or Julia Roberts (or Wicked) don't go onto that site for a while.
I'm happy THE ODD COUPLE, Harry Connick Jr, SWEENEY TOOD and Patti & Michael(although I voted for Nathan & Matthew for THE ODD COUPLE) and all the WICKED awards. They seem fine to me. This is audience voted, so there must be something to them all
Yay for the Sweeney cast!!! I'm so glad Mano won featured, it won revival and ensemble, and Michael and Patti won onstage pair! .
The Odd Couple is lifelessly staged and performed and The Color Purple has some merit, but not nearly as much as others.
I am happy for See What I Wanna See and Sweeney Todd (and Harry Connick Jr. who won't win the Tony, but was still absolutely fantastic!)

Yay for Wicked,Jersey Boys and Sweeney Todd!
I was pleased that Felicia P Fields won two awards.
You go, Felicia!
And John won.
Harry's pecs won. LOL!

I don't disagree with many of the choices. They've come up with some much stranger winners in the past.
As long as Mano won, I'm happy. He was fantastic in that role and he was my favorite part of the show.
Sure (like Sutton Foster over Victoria Clark last year), but Julia Roberts?
Yeah, you can always tell from the Broadway.com winners who the actual people doing the voting were... and it never fails.
Nothing against them personally, but the over-haul of teenage girls who don't see ANY of the shows nominated (sans a few), really skews the results.
Also, nothing against the show or people in it, but I can't help feeling "The Color Purple" is over-rated, especially by younger theatre fans who don't have the patience to appreciate "Sweeney Todd" or even "The Drowsy Chaperone" (except Sutton's name). I'm afraid "Purple" is going to pull a "Crash" at the Tonys...
*wonders how the BWW.com results will be*

NOw...it's not all the teenage girls.
What about the teenage boys who live in Alabama (yea...fun right?) and aren't exactly flooded with opportunities to see the nominated shows? I've only got cast albums (and thats just Color Purple and Sweeney). But dont I still get an opinion?
Oh...and how exactly do I see the results?
Aw, I see nothing wrong with the winners. It's kind of refreshingly different. I mean, the People's Choice Awards are always goofy, too!
The worst award was when Scary Spice won best female replacement. YIKES!!

I'm not sure what the original poster means by this post? I am personally very happy with most of the Broadway.com Audience Awards and certainly value what the real public feels much more than elitists such as this poster.
I must have missed the boat on The Color Purple. It just doesn't live up to the other shows, in my opinion. Also, I really don't see Lachanze as giving the best performance of a lead actress in a musical and hers is certainly not the "diva performance" of the year. I guess many other voters weren't as enthralled with Patti Lupone's performance in Sweeney as I was...
Well, we all know the tennyboppers voted for the lackluster Wicked replacements.
Higgins, I agree with you. You didn't miss the boat. (And LuPone is fantastic.)
The "uhg" happened for me when Orfeh didn't get a nomination for Diva performance.
Where is my woman in white? So upset that Maria and Michael as well as anything from The WIW won! Grrr!
Bree, there was that and the fact that now see what I wanna see won instead of (far worthier IMO), Trailer Park. You just know those crazy "you know who" fans sat around all day and slammed the site with votes. Good show, but far from the best.

I just wanted to add that Sweeney is my favorite show, but I still like The Color Purple...it's possible (even from a 14 year old).
There are certainly some odd choices (Julia Roberts, Odd Couple as Best Revival, etc.), but overall, these awards have been far kookier in the past.
I'm happy for Harry because in a different year, I think he'd have a really good shot at the Tony, so at least he got some sort of acknowlegement.
I wanted Sutton to win Diva Performance, though.
The Color Purple had an advantage because the newsletter told them to go vote. I'm kind of really upset that John didn't win Best Actor. But yay for Mano!
Ok...I'm missing something because I cannot find the resuslts.
A little help? :)
