Not that I was a Lara Fabian fan (totally confused by her presenced)

BUT

white-bread, girl-next-door Sutton to play the embittered and embattled RUSSIAN wife?

Nyet!

Well, it is a concert. Julia Murney hardly has the looks of a woman who heats up the Cold War by bedding a Russian and an American.

VERY true. Although said Russian is about as exciting as a block of wood and said American likes to bedazzle his jeans...I'm just saying.

I do think Sutton is talented. I just like an earthier sound for my Svetlana.

What's with Seth's fascination with Murney? She's mediocre in everything... I know... Nice voice, but not much more. Shouldn't he stick to Broadway stars for these big events? Updated On: 9/9/03 at 05:36 PM

I think we can all agree that Seth's not a master of casting.

I would never agree to such a thing! Not if I want a job in this town! :)

Oh GOD!....no this is ruined, anyone who has seen her perform anything in the last number of months will attest to the fact she is not a joy to watch lately! I'll skip this one...I'm have to use my memory of the Original London Production to get me thru....

I have been hearing this so much about her. Is it true? Has she stayed too long at the party? And if MILLIE is a party, isn't it a BAD party?

She shoulda played Louise.

Oh, wow... she was SO miserable at Broadway on Broadway... I haven't seen Millie in quite a few months... so I was MORE than shocked.

Her voice was even lacking. There was NOTHING fun about watching her. If it wasn't for Anne, I don't think I could have gotten through "Forget About the Boy" without crying for them to stop.

You guys must be talking about another girl. She was great when I saw Millie a month or so ago.

Last time I saw Millie was August 19th, if you feel that her performance lately has been lacking I pity you. She's come from Tony-Award winning quality to simply brilliant. The girl gets better each time I see her. You guys are surely not talking about that world-class talent that I know. Certainly that isn't possible. She's more incredible than she's ever been. Maybe you saw her understudy and they didn't insert the slip into your playbill, haha.

BroadwayGirl it was no understudy, heck I wish it was an understudy, I would of enjoyed it.

I think Sutton will be great in Chess. I don't think she'll be unhappy, bacause unlike Millie, she hasn't been doing Chess for over a year.

OOOOOOOOUUUUUCH. Out of curiosity, what date did you see it? I can't imagine good old Sutton ever letting anyone down. She's the only person I know I could see in the same role 6 times and laugh harder and harder each time I see her. And I'm more and more shocked by her singing each time I see her. Hmm. I cant possibly imagine how anyone could find her less entertaining than she was closer to the beginning of her run, she's certainly funnier now, and her vocal quality has improved, that's just plain facts.

As for Bdway on Bdway, maybe she decided to tone down her performance. Had she done the song the way she does it onstage every night, everyone would hope she got herself to the nearest mental institution, because she goes nuts during that number. I talked to other people who were there, they said it was just basically what it is on the CD. Not the Sutton you see in the show at all. Updated On: 9/9/03 at 06:11 PM

You are right BG107!, why do it the way you do it in the theater, make it smaller and lifeless(with a sour puss on ya face to boot) for the several MILLION strong audience watching your performance at Broadway on Broadway.

sheekala - If you've actually seen the way she does it in the theatre in recent months...I think you would understand that it wouldn't quite make sense to do it like a lunatic like that, while everyone watching hasn't learned much about the character, if that makes any sense at all. The way she did it on the Tony's wasn't even the way she does it in the theatre, it would just be strange to see it performed that way without getting an idea of just how goofy the character is before hand. OKay, I probably am not making any snese at all here....

I didn't mean to be a hardarse in my post and Iunderstand what you are saying, I last saw the show Tuesday Aug.12 and found the energy lacking, I've seen it a number of times and just found it "off"(I'm also not a fan of Sutton playing opposite her real life beau-loved her beside Gavin), couple that with the BonB performance and I made my judgement.

You happened to catch Sutton on her first day back from her vacation (Aug 4-10). I spoke with Sutton that Saturday, and she said she was finding it a little hard to get back into the swing of things after her vacation, in such a tough role. So you probably just caught her on that off night.

P.S. Christian is far better than Gavin, period. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Broadway.com: Sutton Foster replaces Lara Fabian in Che

It's very funny how everyone's complaining about the broadway castin gnad not josh groban, who isn't musical theatre???

I personally think the casting is awesome. We should all remember this is a staged Concert version of the Musical, mainly focusing on the vocals. Hopefully this powerhouse musical will be recorded like the wonderful DREAMGIRLS. That cd barely leaves my player!

Granted Murney doesn't LOOK like a Florence, but sure as hel can SOUND like one! And as for Foster, well I think she's a great addition, it's nice to see her in a stuffy alto role rather than her being typed with broadway tiny belt voiced like Kerry Butler has been! I think that Adam and Josh will be great as well.
