Just a reminder to everyone in the city. Check actors equity lounge, student unions, and local schools. Plenty of comps to be had. Hello Dolly, Sponge Bob, Once On This Island are a few that offered comps recently. You can call the day of the show. Manhattan Plaza also gets comps.
New to the city--can you explain what you mean by this? Do they give out unused tickets when a large storm keeps the tourists away?
Thanks in advance!

Yes. If you are a equity member the easiest place is the actors equity lounge in midtown. But all the student unions get them. If your not a student ask a student to get them for you. But usually they don't care. It is a way for them not to play to empty houses and giving the people that did pay to see the show a audience to share it with. Some other locals might have more info. I just know whenever I am in town I check with the Equity lounge and Manhattan Plaza.

What school? If you go to NYU I believe it is on 8th street (someone correct me if I am wrong). You walk right in and there is usually a board with the days availability.
What if you’re just in the city visiting from out of town?

What about it? Honey it is free. You don't expect them to put the tickets on a golden plate and find you and hand them to you? Do a little leg work . This is mostly for people that live in the city .
I have had good luck at the Actors Equity Lounge. Mostly for plays. Manhattan Plaza is also good but it has been a while since I have been there. You sed to be able to just ask in the front desk even if you weren't a resident. Now I don't know.

Long shot, I figure, but does Equity Lounge also give comps to EMC candidates?

Get the number for your student union. Call them and ask. But I think it’s mostly in the city. Last week Equity had Parsan Woman and Dolly. If your not a member of equity just stand by the lounge and ask someone going in or out to get them for you. Usually people are very nice.

It varies by show and what policy they are choosing to enforce. With some shows in the past you've needed to show your Equity card to get your tickets. Others you merely signed up and there were directions specifically telling you not to mention Equity or the fact that they were comps when picking up the tickets (I think Trip of Love used to do that when they were papering nearly every night).
Not even for free would I venture out tonight. But this afternoon!?
