Considering so many productions take 7-10 years from initial idea to Broadway. It got me thinking about where and what Broadway theatre will be like by the 2029-30 season
- I’m guess long runners will still be lion king, wicked, Hamilton. (Though I’m guessing Chicago will close up shop by then
- I think we may begin to see more in concert style shows (large orchestra/but low tech). I could be very wrong but i just feel that there needs to be some sort of cultural shift to move back to some larger shows. - Disney Revivals of Beauty and the Beast, AiDa and Hercules will be playing
- we will have a return of Julia Roberts on Broadway
- the bio musical will have have become less prominent
STRANGER THINGS: THE FIRST SHADOW, THE HUNGER GAMES, PURPLE RAIN, and JUST FOR ONE DAY will also be long-runners by then. THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will be more recent but it will be well on its way to a healthy New York run.
WARRIORS will have taken the leap from concept album to full-scale musical.
CRAZY RICH ASIANS, 13 GOING ON 30, and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA will have all flopped in their New York stage transplants.
We know there will be A-list celebrities on some of Broadway's stages, but my prediction is that most of them will end up committing themselves to new and original work.
