- Barbra Streisand & Julie Andrews –– No. Both have said they don't intend to act on stage again. Both have indicated that they'd consider directing a stage production, but I would not hold my breath.
- Maggie Smith –– No. producers were willing to move heaven & earth to get her to do A GERMAN LIFE on Broadway (which she did at the Bridge Theatre in '19), but apparently doesn't want to do NY theatre.
- Chita Rivera and Joel Grey would be a unique circumstance, as both are over 90 and neither is a box office commodity based on their recent work.
- Ian McKellan was gearing up to do LEAR here but Scott Rudin swooped in with the Glenda Jackson production instead.
- Helen Mirren and Bernadette Peters are still in their 70s, not quite the same age class as the others; with them it would just be a matter of finding the right role/show. With Bernadette especially, it's conceivable; I'd love to see her do a nonmusical play (which she hasn't done on Bway since the 60s), but saleswise people want her to sing.
For me the biggest question surrounding theatre "legends" is: Will Mandy Patinkin ever do a full run of a musical again?
