Broadway on "Great Performances"

Here in Southern California, PBS will soon air filmed stage productions of two classics.

42nd Street, November 1st and 3rd

The King and I (Kelli O'Hara), November 8th and 10th

Check your listings, because they may be shown on different dates in your part of the world.

I recently saw 42nd Street for a one-night theater showing, and really enjoyed it.

Probably for a limited time. Your best bet is the PBS app I have found.

I think each State's PBS channel decides when or if to air something. I remember when I was living out west we didn't always get things the same day they did back east. Also, WNET offers airings that can only be seen in NY and NJ. It asks for your zip code.

This, I think, is the TV ad that ran in the UK for the filmed version.

I was able to watch THE KING AND I in its entirety on YouTube before it was taken down. It was splendid.

I saw it as well and YES it was! Everyone was excellent but Ruthie Ann Miles was sublime. She breathed such life into Lady Thiang.

Yes I remember WNED(Buffalo/Toronto) had decided not to air the Prince documentary ( tho thru the kindness of a poster I was able to see it)

Right now it appears 42nd St is on the schedule Nov 1 King & I for Nov 8

Looking forward!

not to take away from people supporting PBS (which I do donate to), but 42nd street, kinky boots and King and I are actually Broadway HD productions and have been available to Broadway HD amazon subscribers for a while.

I really enjoyed Kinky Boots, didn't love 42nd street and have not watched King and I yet.

Until I read your post, I didn't know that "Kinky Boots" was on the docket. After some Googling, I see that it is on schedule here for November 29. Not having seen either the movie or stage versions, I have just a very basic understanding of the plot, So, I'm looking forward to a new entertainment adventure!

BroadwayHD is finally starting to come up with some content. In addition to 42nd Street and King and I, people here might be interested in the NY Philharmonic’s concert Carousel, with Kelli, Nathan Gunn, and Jesse Mueller, Roundabout’s She Loves Me with Laura B., An American in Paris, Hugh Jackman’s Oklahoma, and a bunch of quality other good stuff dating back 5-10 years.

I never saw Kinky Boots on stage either.

I enjoyed this version of "42nd Street" every bit as much on the TV screen as I did a few months back in a theater. I only wish I had seen it on stage. The big, splashy numbers were fun, but I absolutely loved the quiet simplicity of "About a Quarter To Nine".

You might want to add "Red," a play about the artist Rothco, to your viewing list. It airs on November 15th where I live.
