Any one else notice how Young Frankenstein advertising is looking pretty desperate?

It's not "new"...anymore
and
Based on posts here stating attendance...doesn't appear to be a 'favorite' - people are standing outside looking for cancellations, trying to win a lottery, etc

I also saw a TV ad recently that stated that this was the winner of the best musical followed by "small print" stating the website that took the poll - and that went by faster than I could read.

When I saw it when it was 'new' - it was ok but I don't consider it a favorite either nor a best musical.

Young Frankenstein is not a Broadway show, it's a tour. It needs to close so another composer can turn the first thing they think that's pleasent into a musical. Or, of course, we can always revive Fiddler again.

I always found this confusing...

They should just get rid of the 'ever'. Or the sentence altogether.

I adore Mel's comedy but his ego is a different story.

You can't blame them for trying to sell tickets. That's how shows survive.

Wicked still calls itself a new musical. I think we've just decided that it means it's not a revival.

Does Wicked still call itself new?

In London, I recall seeing somewhere that it's now Wicked: The HIT musical.

In Soviet Russia, Wicked hates you too!

Well by "new musical" I don't think they mean "new" time-wise. I think they just mean new material, not a revival. So yeah, I agree with CATSNY.

I think that statement IS Mel being funny. It blatantly reeks of someone who is trying to over-promote their show (ala Bialystock?), so I wouldn't even try to take it seriously.

The word "ever" doesn't grammatically fit...it just sounds like a bad copywriter wrote it

It's Mel Brooks. He (and his ego) love hyperbole.

Guys, you are talking about one of the most famous comedic directors of all time. It is not meant to be taken seriously. I have heard that Young Frankenstein is amazing, and I intend to see it soon! People just don't like slap stick humor like they used to..... However, I think it is HILARIOUS!!! So to those who bash the show and Mel, You have your opinion and we have ours!

You haven't seen the show! Your opinion is IRRELEVANT!

Well...it's not going to be a Broadway musical for much longer that's for sure.

Word "on the street" is that the Hilton Theatre wants them out. Young Frank will be gone by Jan 4 (if they can keep it going that long). Here comes Spidey!

you wanna talk about an awful musical.. well just talk about spiderman coming lol that is not going to be great

personally, i saw the show, and i loved it! although, i think that sometimes, it did get a little old, like the cabin scene... it was drawn out too long, but over all, it was great! we watched the movie the day before going to refresh us so we knew the jokes, but they added new stuff which caught you off guard!!!!!! SO FUNNY! when I went, the only person absent from the cast was Megan (thank god!) but everyone was AMAZING, except roger bart... he was just ok, but Sutton and Andrea were AWESOME! but i think Chris deserves the most praise, but it is still a really good show!

Why is everyone pinning the tagline on Mel Brooks? I doubt he's the one in charge of advertising. He probably just signs the papers, and then goes back to trying to make the campfire scene from Blazing Saddles into a production number.

I must say that if people are complaining about the farting scene in Shrek just wait until they see the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles.

has he confirmed anything for Blazing Saddles? I know that in YF during the curtain call they sang something along the lines of Blazing Saddles coming to broadway.. didn't know if he would actually go there lol

Wanna be a foster, I was talking about Mel Brooks in general. Everybody seems to be bashing Mel Brooks on here, and i think he is a comical GENIUS! So I was making that statement based on that only. However, I will give you a full developed message when i finally see the show, which i know i will love!
