Broadway with an injury question
Broadway with an injury question #1

Hey y’all. I’m headed to the city next month for a few days and I recently developed a stress fracture and plantar fasciitis. It’s really hard for me to get up stairs and squeeze through aisles with this giant boot I have to wear. Is there anything I can do in regards to being more comfortable in the theatre/any way to avoid sitting upstairs and still get affordable prices? TIA, I wasn’t sure how to approach this.

I’ve had luck with narrowing down what shows I want to see, then contacting House Mgmt to see if I can be accommodated with a loose chair at the back of the house. They will usually do this at the cheapest orchestra price/ADA price.

I think I’m confused by the question. Hmm.. Do you already have tickets? Otherwise avoid seats aside from main level/orchestra aisle seats? (Factoring in which side you need based on whether the boot is on the left or right.)

Depending on the shows you are seeing, there is a different approach. (I’m going on my experience as an overly talk and formerly morbidly obese person who needed different accommodations based on the theatre)
If it’s anything in a Jujamcyn or Nederlander theatre, you can easily purchase accommodation seats online and just attest that you aren’t some jerk trying to steal ADA seating for cheap.
If in a Shubert theatre, you’ll need to call Telecharge’s ADA line (212-239-6222) and order through them. Plan ahead by checking the seating map on Telecharge’s website to see whereabout the open ADA seats are.
Since you have the good (mis)fortune of knowing what your physical limitations are in advance, it’s always better to get ahead of it, because if you are planning to see a hot ticket show, they will likely have diminished opportunity to reseat you at showtime.
