I really wanted to vote for (tos) for orchestrations when I realized, it was a piano.
I mean it's brilliant, but it's a PIANO!
snarky, none of that makes up for the fact that the material isn't that good. A bunch of good reviews and standing ovations doesn't mean that the show has any real substance.
that is just your opinion, Cats. some people happen to like the show... reviewers and the full houses that come to the show. AND just because it doesn't have substance doesn't mean it's bad IF that is what the creators are trying to achieve. ROA doesn't want to be deep and meaningful. It just wants to be silly and fun, and it achieves that... far more than 9 to 5- the other "fun, silly" show that just opened. So yeah, given what they are trying to achieve, good reviews and standing ovations actually DOES mean it is successful and worthwhile. It is ridiculous to judge all show by the same criteria... Next To Normal for example is trying to do something TOTALLY DIFFERENT than ROA. And good luck to it!!
All I'm saying is that it's possible to be fun and silly -- and well written. Rock of Ages is not that. Yes, that's my opinion and everything you've said so far is yours yet you try to parade it as fact... like a standing ovation means something when it really doesn't.

yeah, next to normal is trying to do something with artistic intergrity and decent writing. ROA is trying to get by on drunken idiots singing along to songs they remember from when they had "bitchin' mullets"

VocalLizzy and Lea must be calling all their friends and family.
What's the qualifier for the off-Broadway Musical category, why is ROOMS not a choice?
Wow, look at all the typos!
To be fair, I'm actually one of the few mainstays on here that seems to enjoy ROCK OF AGES, but I would hardly call what it receives "Standing Ovations." It's a rock-and-roll, clap-your-hands-along finale/curtain-call that encourages the audience to stand/dance/clap along a la "Mamma Mia!" (a show I think is significantly inferior).
It's hardly paired with the emotions/impetus/etc. that goes hand-in-hand with a "Standing ovation." Hell, that's why I've stood at the end. It's an "I'm having fun, drunkenly swaying and clapping my hands to 'Don't Stop Believin'" -- not exactly a "this is brilliant, and I must stand up to display my appreciation!"
fair enough... the creators of the show have absolutely nothing to do with the people standing at the end of every show. I give up.
And Cats, for the record, I am not parading my opinions as facts... yes, there happen to be facts found inside some of my opinions (like the FACT that other shows are currently buying their own tickets to boost grosses) but I am fully aware that what I FEEL about the quality of this particular show is mine... luckily my OPINIONS are shared by every paper of note, really cool people I admire in the business, and not just anonymous people on a message board.

Sorry, Cats...
I've only one email address. Already voted...but as Snarky pointed out, these awards are about FANS and their support.
As a passionate supporter of this show, I've reached out to the show's online fan base and they've mobilized. The ROA fans are the people that spread the word on the show long before there was a big Broadway marketing budget. They're the same ones who have been voting.
If the fans of other shows are not as passionate, organized or efficiently mobilized as the ROA fans, that's not the fault of "Rock of Ages." When you're a fan, you want others to get the same joy you do...and that starts by being a vocal supporter.

Oh Jesus.
that is just your opinion, Cats.
No it's not.
snore.
Cats, Piragua...
ya'll are smart enough to know that these fan awards are just about which show has the type of fan base passionate enough to sign up just to vote for something- so arguments of merit or content is a bit beside the point here when its a topic you've already covered.
Aside from Lizzy's efforts to pimp the contest, Constantine himself put this as his facebook status so take a deep breath, relax and blame teenage internet-addicted American Idol fans worldwide for what you percieve as an unexpected result. He's young, he's cute and hes got legions of somewhat scarily devoted fans- those are always the type of people who attract votes for online contests and he prompted it himself!

well, it's rock of ages, so my definition, it is a bad thing.
I'm glad to see Natalie Toro currently in second for "Best Featured Actress". Say what you want about the show but she's a great talent.
Who the hell knew TALE had such a big fanbase...it's in the top four for a crapload of categories.
A TALE OF TWO CITIES is going to be the winner of a lot of these awards at this rate...it's slowly but surely creeping up to first or second place in almost all of the categories it's eligible in.

...and, RIGHTLY SO! This will be the chance for Tale to shine as it should have from the start. It began with sold out audiences in Sarasota, and on Broadway, practically everyone who saw it wept, cheered, was transformed by this musical...except for the rare few who decided (even bafore they saw the show) to trash it (let's not forget the sold out critics :{...).
This show IS a winner, regardless. I, for one, am enjoying seeing Jill, and Tale, get the very well deserved recognition they deserve Keep the Jill S. love going, Tale fans!
