Loathed Shields on stage.

Overall performance, Brooke by a little bit.

yeah...everyone liked jennifer hope wills better..i thought donna sucked and she couldnt sing at all,she might have been drunk that night,now that i find out she is an alchy.

Donna Murphy is not an alcoholic, where did that come from?
I LOVED Donna Murphy, but I thought it only fair to see Brooke Shields, and I thought she was good, but to me, there is no comparison.

I agree. Brooke was far from terrible, but she can't hold a candle to the wonder that is Donna Murphy.

I only saw Donna so I'm going to say her. Keep in mind Muscle the part of Ruth was written for Roz Russell who wasn't a good singer. You should hear Donna's voice outside of Wonderful Town. I heard her on this CD with all Bernstein music and when I heard her singing I thought it was someone else singing because her voice was so different. While Brooke does have good comic timing her voice will never compare to Donna’s voice.

Donna Murphy is not an alcoholic. And since this is a discussion about the performances of the women, I think we should leave attendance out of it because it will end in arguements that have nothing to do with who was the best Ruth Sherwood.


Donna Murphy has a beautiful voice! She is one of the finest actresses I have ever seen, and was perfect as Ruth. I'll admit Brooke was not as bad as I thought she would be, but she still did not come close to Donna.

Donna by a long shot! I saw both performances, and while Donna was exhilarating and incredible, and oozed star power, I felt that Brooke was just doing this formpublicity. Now, before you yell at me, let me just make it clear that this is only MY feelings about it, I'm not saying that she DID do it for publicity, that's just how I felt. In my humble, I don't think she's incredibly talented. So... DONNA ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

Of course Roz Russell owns that role!

Donna is perfect in every role she plays. I don't think she's ever gotten a bad review - besides the ones about her being sick, blah, blah, blah.
