Is there a recording of Mr. Terfel as Sweeney?

No official recording, although there are excerpts available on Youtube from when he and Maria Friedman did it at The Proms.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I was just watching those clips, which is part of the reason I was wondering.

They should do a studio recording with him and a full orchestra.

That would be lovely. While we're fantasizing, why not throw in Ms. Peters as Lovett. It is the one role I really wish she had played, and she has almost no chance of doing it on Broadway (because of the 2007 revival) or the West End (because of the upcoming Ball/Staunton revival).

I always thought Bernadette Peters would be a spectacular Mrs. Lovett; perhaps now more than ever, since she's relaxed her schtick a bit and given beautiful, nuanced performances in NIGHT MUSIC and FOLLIES. I think Imelda Staunton would be fabulous as well. I'm not a fan of Friedman's interpretation (or her in general).

Caroline O'Connor would be amazing, as well. Her Mrs. Lovett in Paris is probably the best interpretation I've ever seen/heard.

i think Staunton is inspired casting, but it's a shame BP hasn't gotten to do the part.

Indeed, he has not recorded Sweeney in its entirety but he did record "Epiphany" for his Bad Boys album. Definitely worth a listen, especially "Tre Sbirri, Una Carrozza" from Tosca.

Speaking of Bryn Terfel... You can watch him LIVE right now singing Mendelssohn's ELIJAH in the Verbier festival, with Manfred Honeck conducting.

I'm, sadly, not there singing with my Chorale, but we can watch it live on http://www.medici.tv/ (1PM EST).

ENJOY!!!

For Peters as Lovett, go to the six minute mark in this video:
