"More I Cannot Wish You" is the "Little Lamb" of GUYS & DOLLS.
I did the lights for my school's production of G&D. I had NO idea Arvide was Sarah's grandfather until she says it late into the second act. I had thought Arvide had the hots for Sarah. Even then I didn't get it until our 5th run through.
Yay for Ben Magnuson and John Selya... the rest of it, meh.

In the Broadwayworld article that says the same news it says that the Nederlander box office opens in early January. I want to say the 5th. How is construction going on the theatre. Will it be ready by then for the box office to be open? I understand that the house doesn't need to be ready but I would guess a fair amount if not all of the facade of the theatre would need to be for them to open the box office.
I believe they are set to wrap up the renovations this month.
lauren graham will be there for a year, and plus she and alexis are not doing gilmer girls anymore. she will be doing movies right now.
i guess we have to wait and see how tittuss does as nicely nicely. great to see these performers have jobs right now.
The casting of Titus Burgess, Steve Rosen, Mary Testa, Kearran Giovanni, Benjamin Magnuson, and Brian Shepard make me want to see the show.

Yankees, I am well aware that Gilmore Girls is dead and done with. Graham- as recently as last week, I think- signed a development deal with ABC, or NBC, or someone. SHes going to produce and star in a new sitcom- if they want that sitcome to be on the air for the Fall 2009 premiere season, she will not able to do a full year of Guys and Dolls.
But even if she stays, which is possible, I am curious of Mary Testa will be understudying her role... I think Mary would be an interesting choice for Adelaide and shed definitely rock out on those great big songs...

I LOVE Guys and Dolls -- one of my favorites of all time. But glad that I am to see Testa and Seyla in ANYTHING -- they're both brilliant -- I think it's a shame that they don't have their own show or, at least, major parts in their shows. Selya was supreme, genius and breathtaking in Movin' Out; Testa has stolen everything she's in (nice lady, too). Think how brilliant Testa could be as the Old Woman in Candide or Selya could be in On the Town. Boggles my mind.
Can't believe insanely-talented Mary Testa has to take this role, someone offer her a leading role or a meaty supporting part on Broadway or even a film. She is wonderful.
Am I the only one who wishes Titus would just sing the damn notes sometimes? He's got a hell of a voice, but sometimes he just goes overboard.
I'm with you Taryn.
Am I the only one who does NOT want to see "Sit Down..." treated like the '94 "Beauty School Dropout?"

My first Broadway show was the 2001 revival of "42nd Street," which featured Testa as Maggie Jones (for which she was nominated for a Tony award). She stole pretty much every scene she was in. I remember being so fascinated by her. I'm thrilled she'll be back on Broadway in some capacity, and would absolutely love to see her spin on Adelaide.
It's also great to hear she's a nice person.
Her talent wasted? In this economy any actor with a steady paycheck is grateful!!!
I cannot see them giving her a solo in Sit Down....that is Nicely's song, through and through.
Mary Testa could burp on stage and I would be first in line to buy a ticket! :-] I don't know anything about Guys and Dolls but I do know, however big or small her part, Mary will rock the house. She is insanely talented and should have a lead role in a show. She is also very kind to her fans.
I don't think Testa's talent will be wasted. I mean, I'd clean toilets if I got to work for five seconds with Des McAnuff.
and on top of that, I think it's hard for even the most respected actors to turn down such recognizable characters in the musical theatre cannon (like Arvide and Cartwright) even if they aren't larger or flashier than other roles.
Although he has a better part in August, I certainly would have loved to see John Cullum play Arvide.

Titus Burgess and Steve Rosen make me very happy. I'm sure Mary will be fine, work is work. And yes, I'm sure she'll u/s Adelaide, and yes, she'll probably get some chances to play it now that Graham has committed to a sitcom. (Oops)
If we're talking about wasted talent, how about Benjamin Magunson? I loved him in the Sweeney revival.

It's so obvious. Testa and Burgess will do a "challenge riff/scat" section of "Sit Down..." jjust like Matthew Broderick and Lilas White did during "Brotherhood of Man" in the H2$ revival.
