Not suprised, but it is always sad to see a show closing.

It is a small theatre and it was about 1/4 full when i saw it. I can't believe it lasted this long to be honest. =(

It's probably because nobody know's it's running. I haven't heard anything about it nor have I even seen any review for it.

if it was good enough...you would have heard about it.
It is god-awful.I can normally find something good about any show but this didn't have much going for it.

I can't believe it lasted as long as it did. One of the most torturous nights of my theatre-going life.
The night I went, the show was about 30% full and I'm pretty sure everyone was comped. Commercial Off-Broadway is dead.
Yeah, when i saw the show i was wondering how could they get such a great cast for such a terrible play? and the music was way too loud, i stayed till the end to see if it actually made sense, it didn't. But i wanted to greet the talented actors.

Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris is doing pretty well for an Off-Broadway show. Or at least it seems. Grey Gardens did well too. Good shows do well off Broadway. It's just nobody wants to see a bad show.
GREY GARDENS was produced by Playwrights Horizons, a non-for-profit (not commercial) theatre company. JACQUES BREL is the rare exception. Nowadays, however, without a big star, a show off-Broadway can barely make back a tenth of what it cost to put it up.
"It is a small theatre"
Actually, it's one seat away from being categorized as broadway, so it's large for off broadway. Still, it's not a great show....

yeah the bottom line here is really that it is a bad show. Spelling Bee was a small show off-Broadway, with no "big name" stars but yet I do believe some people may have heard of that one.. lol
i saw 2 of the actors yesterday on The View and they seemed unenthused about the show too... like they knew they were in a sucky show
I was thinking the same thing when we left the show last week. It's so bad that you can't help but think that the actors must realize it's pretty awful, too. They can only do so much with the material given - and it is a talented cast.
Spelling Bee was a small show off-Broadway, with no "big name" stars but yet I do believe some people may have heard of that one..
Again, SPELLING BEE was produced by a NON-FOR-PROFIT theatre company (Second Stage) in its original off-Broadway run. BURLEIGH GRIME$ is presented FOR PROFIT. Companies like Lincoln Center, The Public, Playwrights Horizons, Second Stage, Signature, Roundabout, etc...It doesn't matter how they do financially, because they are all non-for-profit theatre companies. We were having a discussion on the state of COMMERCIAL off-Broadway theatre.

What are some other commercial shows that opened off-broadway?
I know:
SLUT: The Musical
The Great American Trailer Park Musical
Altar Boyz
Sid
The Lieutenant of Inishmore?
Spring Awakening ?
Commercial Off-Broadway is anything that is produced for profit and not by a non-for-profit theatre company. SPRING AWAKENING and INISHMORE were both produced by Atlantic Theatre Company, a non-for-profit.

mef, thanks. I'm not sure what is "non-for-profit." It seems like most everything off-broadway is. Except for the shows that go into Dodgers.
I have the urge for a coffee.
LOL. (If you saw the show you will understand)
I saw the show and i don't understand? Is it to see the lovely Nancy Anderson pouring coffee or for the fact the show is boring?
Nancy was the best part of the show. The sad thing about the show is they had some real musical talent. It is sad that they couldn't have some singing, I would have loved to hear Nancy sing instead of pouring coffee. It would have been more interesting if Nancy Anderson sung a song about sexism on Wall Street. As she was pouring coffee you could hear her sing about how she hates these men and her job.
(Singing- that is really what the character is thinking_
It would have made a world of a difference.
They had David Yazbeck, wish they could have incorporated singing. It would have been more interesting.
Grimes was another sitcom wasted with incredible talent.
A shame.
