Something tells me people aren't exactly going to be jumping out of their seats to get tickets to this one.
Am I the only one who has had his share of the Nathan Lane schtick for the time being?
I purchased tickets for this production on August 15th.
Will they offer SRO? (will it ever be sold out??)

I agree...I'll see Nathan in anything as well!
While it isn't doing Odd Couple business, I've heard that Butley is selling rather well. And if you are tired of Nathan Lane "schtick," it would be the perfect reason to see him in Butley, which while it has funny moments, is not about buffoonery or comic mannerisms.

Agreed! The Odd Couple sell out was unique in Broadway history. The sell out was based on the fact that people wanted to see Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick together again on stage, and that The Odd Couple is not only well known, but Neil Simons most popular play.
Butley, is a nice departure for Nathan Lane from musicals and shows like The Odd Couple, and a much more dramatic role. which he can easily handle, as shown in his genius turn as Buzz in Love! Labour! Compassion!.
I Got my tickets back in August, and can't wait to see the show.
Nathan Lane is amazing and I will pay whatever I have to pay to see him in anything he does

I've seen it. It's schtick-free. Unless, Wannabe, your definition of "Nathan's schtick" includes being a performer at the top of his game and completely in command. In which case, skip it.
Variety has an article about Butley's advance sales. $2 million, with a month to go before first preview is an excellent start for a serious play.
'Butley' brings in boffo bucks in advance
Gotham remount starts performances Oct. 5

Looks like Nathan Lane doesn't need to co-star in a comedy with Matthew Broderick to sell tickets.
"Butley," the Broadway revival of Simon Gray's drama, has gotten its advance up to nearly $2 million -- not bad for a production of a serious 1972 play that began general ticket sales Sunday. (An early ticket offer for American Express cardholders also contributed to the show's tally.)
Portraying a professor in the midst of one very rough day, Lane earned strong reviews for his perf in the play in Boston in 2003. The Gotham remount, helmed by Nicholas Martin and produced by Elizabeth I. McCann, starts performances Oct. 5.

Something (Variety article above) tells me that you are wrong.
Alright, chill. No need to attack. I was just making a guess. I'm glad to hear that this role is something different from his duplicate roles in FORUM, THE PRODUCERS, THE FROGS, and THE ODD COUPLE. It's about time he dig back into a dramatic role.

Thanks for correcting my error. I ALWAYS get that show's tittle mixed up.
Thanks aloso agreeing with me. It's nice to see such a talented actor show off his versitilty.
Glad to hear that tickets for Butley are selling. I hope the "general public" are the ones buying the majority of the tickets and not the ticket brokers! I'm flying to NY to see this show because Nathan Lane blows me away as a performer. I'm looking forward to seeing him in a serious role. He received good reviews in Boston a few years ago where he first portrayed Ben Butley. It seems like he doesn't get the credit he deserves as a serious performer because he's done so many comedic roles. This role should help showcase his broad spectrum of talent.

Basically, for show that's not a musical, but a dark comedy, and billed as not being suitable for those under 14, the tickets are selling very well.
The show itself, has a lot going for it, first, and foremost Nathan Lane. But, it's a great play, in and of itself, with the same director as the Boston production, and a stellar cast, I'm expecting a fantastic night at the theatre.
