Bye Bye Virgin

I went there today & the end is much closer than I thought

There entire Broadway section was 4 copies of Wicked - I kid you not. Many sections of the store are empty

The buys on DVD'S are not that hot because they are giving you off there already high non discounted prices. I went to Union Square & although they have a big sale going on you would not know they are closing. They have a lot of great CD'S & DVD'S on sale & it makes more sense to get them here

I give Times Square a few weeks at best. Hard to believe it closing. I took a photo of it for posterity. I also got tickets via Broadway Box discount for 9 to 5 . Most of the weekend dates are gone. For whatever reason, they have no Sunday matinees in April.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

When is the Union Square Virgin due to close? I'm going to be in New York in early May and hoping to find at least one store open to buy some CDs!

re: Bye Bye Virgin

Funny enough I was talking about this with my friend the other day when we were walking around Union Square. We both agreed that Virgin Megastore might be giving their stock to Amazon.com considering that they have a partnership with them. Their website is powered by Amazon. We got the impression that that move would make more sense because Amazon might do a better job of getting rid of their stock.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

The record store as we know it is dying. Very, very sad.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

The subject line of this thread is wierd. At first my thought was FINALLY. The Virgin Records thing is sad.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

Does anyone other than me remember Gaiety Records located where the Marriott is now? If this helps, it was near the original Ripleys museum.

It is a shame the record/cd store is going away. Somehow, this is not progress.

I thought this was going to be about someone who had never seen BYE BYE BIRDIE.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

What did exactly happen between Kim and Conrad at the Ice House? That's the real question here.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

When I read the title of this thread I thought that Mr. Roxy and his wife had finally consummated their marriage. I guess not.

Oh well, eventually Roxy will rise to the occasion. It's just a matter of time.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

I heard you actually had a thing for Horace Vandegelder. Unfortunately, you did not meet his standards.

I have risen to the occasion many times. Unlike you, I did not need the little blue pill.

Sorry, Roxy. It wasn't Vandergelder who I have a "thing" for, but if Maxwell Caulfield is serious about playing the role, I may quickly change my mind.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

I was there today too and they had copies of 13 the musical..

re: Bye Bye Virgin

Gee...how shocking that 13 is still available. (dripping with sarcasm.)

Either I missed them or they were not there Saturday

In any event, do you agree that the end is very close?

re: Bye Bye Virgin

I was just there and they still had some Legally Blonde CD's and tons of Mamma Mia movie soundtracks. Also hidden in the fixture section(where they are selling all the displays, shelves,ect...)they have a blownup copy of Idina's Album and she signed it and wrote like Thank You Virgin NYC or something like that.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

This is so sad! Those two Virgin Megastores were two of my favorite hangouts in all of New York. I didn't realize they'd be closing Union Square, too. What a shame!

April 15 is the date I was given by a store employee.

re: Bye Bye Virgin

I was in TImes Square yesterday and the outside of the store had " store closing" signs draped all over it. And, apparently they are selling the giant album covers that are posted around the Virgin sign.
