I was looking at Renee Fleming's schedule and it appears she is only in Carousel until the end of August? Am I reading this right? She has many concerts in September and October I wonder who the replacement might be. Does anyone know who her understudy might be?
Interesting if she in fact has only a 6 month contract with the show. But then she is a still a busy concert singer in the classical world.

Actually, that's a 6-month contract, which is perfectly reasonable.

Posted: 4/14/18 at 11:15pmIf you look at the NYT Review from the other night. The show a closing date of 9-2-18. While I don’t think it’s intended to read as an actual closing date, and many other sources show an open run, I do think it could indicate an end date for OBC contracts. That said, August does not seem that far fetched. Her current understudies per the Playbill are Rosena Hill Jackson and Amy Justman.

I interviewed Fleming last fall. Of course things could have changed, but she told me at that time that she was contracted through December 2018. It's likely that her contract includes time off for pre-scheduled concert appearances. I would be surprised if she left for good as quickly as August, though.

"* Please note that Renée Fleming will not be performing the role of Nettie Fowler during the following periods:
- Tuesday, September 4, 2018 through Sunday, October 28, 2018
- Thursday, December 27, 2018 through Sunday, January 6, 2019"
Looks like she'll be gone for a while doing a lot of concerts but is still staying with the show. I wonder if there will be a temporary replacement or if they will just give the understudies an opportunity to play the role.

I know it's not likely that she would replace, and may be a little too old, but I would LOVE for Audra to take over as Julie.
