Carrie in the book is chubby, plain, graceless, squinty and acne-ridden. At several times, especially when she cries, she is compared to looking like a gigantic toad.
But it is then also said that Carrie "cleans up well" and is not ravishing, but certainly a very changed girl when she gets to the prom. Hence the convention of usually casting dowdy-looking but more conventionally attractive/normal-looking girls in the role, as it is much easier for them to make a transformation that fits with other people's responses to Carrie in-universe when she shows up at the dance.

Posted: 1/4/13 at 10:52pmit does seem more of a Halloween movie (i think it will open a week earlier then Paranormal Activity 5!)... but then again... its original release was supposed to be around prom season... which also is a good time for it to open...

Posted: 1/5/13 at 11:41amI wonder if they're going to do the usual idiocy of horribly snubbing the original cast members, alluding to their take as "theatrical, unreal" and slip in the usual pretentiousness of today of "humanizing" the characters via longish pauses between words, crinkling foreheads aplenty, and allowance of boogers dripping outta various facial orifices during the many, MANY crying scenes of reality that is ALL the rage in this day and age. Kill me nowwwwwww!

Damn, I was already anxious for this when it was being released in March.
My Oh My, Julianne Moore did an interview where the interviewer essentially said, "So I'm sure you're not going to play the part like Piper Laurie did since it's a modern version." And she replied something along the lines of, "Who says I won't?" so she at least doesn't seem to be snubbing the original cast.

Sounds like you just finished watching the film version of Les Miserables.

Posted: 1/5/13 at 12:22pmI adorabe Julianna Moore and I am actually holding out hopes. The problem with the previous remake was it's desperate attempt to launch a TV series that colored the entire entireprise, but I appreciated some of the - now dated - effects

Haven't seen it yet, Carlos. But am tired of hearing how people WEEP their way through it but then can't tell you what their fighting for. It's like, step out of your little self-pitying for a second, and listen? rjgbwreobwoirg

Posted: 1/5/13 at 12:42pmI wasn't referring to the audience. I was really referring to the performances and the massive close ups of weepy, miserable individuals, the gnashing of (mostly) rotting and/or pulled teeth, and secretions exiting out of any available orifice. Quite gruesome if ya ask me.
