OK, so this board seems semi-obsessed with all things Carrie, I thought I would mention the most recent casting news. Chloe Moretz has signed to play the title role, and Deadline just announced that Julianne Moore has been offered the role of Margaret White:

I think this is outstanding casting news... and I think JM will rip into this role...

Good luck with that.
Julianne Moore also did the Vera Miles part in the Psycho remake so it is not like she is above this. But I hope she says no and that this like other 'MGM remaking their best movies cuz they're broke news' will be in production hell.

The photos are almost like Vanity Fair Oscar season recreations. So spot on they deliver no first-glance surprise. And though I'm an uber-fan of Moore, I'm already aware than she's competing with the iconic imagery of Piper Laurie, who gave Margaret White a beatific look and demeanor unlike anything else, including her own distinguished repertoire. I hope it's good. At this stage, it looks unnecessary.
I think they need to cast Margaret appropriately. She has never been portrayed the way she is in the novel. I think Cherry Jones would be perfect.
Where were you earlier this year when they cast Julianne Moore? I hereby blame you. Shaaaaame.
I don't know where I was. Probably going insane somewhere...LOL Julianne may do okay, I just that as unncessary as it is to do another movie, if they're going to do it they should be true to its origins, but I can be a bit of purist. I'm surprised I liked the Regent Park Into the Woods. It's wonderful, but very different from the original.
Sometimes, I don't mind differences in the appearance of a character from book to movie. If Hitchcock had stayed true to Norman Bates's description in the book, Anthony Perkins would never have been considered.
Wyn - it's funny, I've been looking at your avatar for so long, I honestly think it's you now!
RIP Irene Dunne
Seriously though, Anthony Perkins in Psycho is an amazing performance. But I don't like it when actors cast in book-into-movie roles don't reflect what is on the page. There's a double standard there
I don't mind straying either, and Piper Laurie was amazing as Margaret. Patricia Clarkson was okay, but I think the script for that one was not very good and she had little to work with.
Really, the closest to margaret physically was Barbara Cook. to quote Miranda Richardson in regard to the character of M. Giry on stage "she looked like a giant exclamation mark"

A CARRIE remake? Why? I just don't get it.
Any actress who plays Carrie is going to be compared unfavorably to Sissy Spacek and there are very few directors who have the visual storytelling skill of Brian DePalma (maybe the Coen brothers could pull it off).

OMG BOB! A Coen brothers version would be very acceptable in my eyes. Also, Carrie is supposed to be a much different looking firl than has been depicted in movies. If they were to cast closer to the novel, who could play her?
That looks like the exact same set of the house interior from 1976 behind Julianne Moore. Except they gave it a brand new coat of paint ... like yesterday. I think it's still wet.
Well, I think the pictures look fantastic. Moore & Moretz are both fantastic actresses...I hope this will be as good as I imagine it being.
Bonnie Bedelia, ammirite?
Perhaps Margot Kidder in a fright wig?
Margot Kidder? Jesus! The last time I heard anything about her was when they made fun of her for being a nut (yes, like me) on Family Guy. Hilarious!
But I can't stop what I am...

I have never read the novel (I didn't even know it was an adaptation). How is she depicted?

OMG! I just found out that Stephen King wrote CARRIE (the novel). How did I not know this?
