I love end of the year lists and to choose the favorites of something. In this case it’s my 10 favorite Cast Recordings (soundtrack of musical movies included) of 2015. So, besides revealing my choices, I took a personal, a really personal, look at more or less 30 recordings that were released last year.
Before reading this keep, in mind the following: I have old fashion tastes, a nice way to say that I’m very narrow-minded when it comes to music; I don’t have any kind of musical formation except that I know what I enjoy to listen to.

Sad that you don't even give Hamilton a sliver of a chance.
On the Town was my personal favorite cast album of 2015. I thought the Imelda Staunton Gypsy recording was dreadful. Imelda is the worst recorded Rose I've heard.

Well narrow minded is right, alright (as OP said so in the first post). Hamilton and School of Rock not making his list because of their hip hop/rap and rock tones. Sad! But of course it's just his opinion anyways lol
GOD FORBIDE anyone not enjoy Hamilton!
yes, God forbide it. I just think OP has such a narrow view on what can be a good musical. no pop, rock, R&B or any other modern kind of music is tolerable in his view. It's just kind of sad. I love the classics just as much as him, but I also love many that don't have the traditional sounds of composers like Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern and George Gershwin. Open your mind to new kinds of music.
Why care? He's happy liking what he likes, how does that effect you in any way?
did I say it affected me in any way?
Well your post was critical of the OPs tastes and you told him to "open his mind".
People like what they like.
You certainly chastised him well enough.

To begin with, thank you all for taking your time to visit my blog. As for my tastes, they’re mine!
As for opening my mind, well… I did listen to the recordings of HAMILTON and SCHOOL OF ROCK, and other modern scores, but I didn’t like them, so I didn’t give them a second chance. I don’t doubt both scores might work on stage (I don’t like the score of RENT, but I really enjoyed the show); unfortunately, I live too far away (in Lisbon, Portugal) to see them. Maybe on a future trip to New York. Anyway, sometimes I can enjoy a more modern sound, for example last year I was pleasantly surprised by IF/THEN.
By the way, I don’t feel chastised at all; I think discussions can be fun

Do not feel alone. Did not see Hamilton but wife wanted to hear the score. Got her the CD. Music is good but we both agree with you re Rent. Neither the score or the show are among our favorites.

We can all agree with Roxy that Rent is awful
Did not say it was awful. I said we did not care for it. Big difference between the two.
And I daresay, there are plenty of people that would not agree with that statement.
I'm not one of them, however.
I guess I meant all sensible people will agree that Rent is awful.
He's entitled to his opinions, and he states his taste at the beginning and acknowledges that he's "narrow minded." But it always puzzles me whenever someone says he doesn't like the score of Hamilton because he doesn't like rap or hip hop. There are so many wonderful songs in Hamilton that are classic musical theater songs that have very little to do with rap: Farmer Refuted, You'll Be Back, Helpless, Wait for It (magnificent song), Stay Alive, That Would Be Enough, Yorktown, What Comes Next, Dear Theodosia, Non-Stop. And that's only in
Act 1.
There's What'd I Miss, Take a Break, Say No to This, The Room Where It Happens, One Last Time, Hurricane, Burn, Blow Us All Away, Burn, It's Quiet Uptown, and I'm sure I'm leaving some out in Act. 2.
