Ok, so yesterday I got a CATCH ME IF YOU CAN mailer which including a sampler CD of some of the songs ("Live In Living Color", "Jet Set", "Butter Outta Cream", and "Fly, Fly Away")

I personally am split about it. I found the numbers to be enjoyable, (especially "Fly, Fly Away), however, as a whole, I found the music to be rudimentary. It almost reminded of "9 to 5" when I came to the conclusion that these songs seem very cookie-cutter and bland. Obviously, I'm aware this is just a small sampling of the larger picture, but this small sampling left a very vanilla taste in my mouth.

What are your thoughts?

I believe Ticketmaster or Telecharge has a list of customers that frequently purchase tickets to shows and that's who they send ads to...I'm guessing

I saw the show in Seattle in 2009 (was it that long ago??) with the cast that is going to open on Broadway.

The motif was very 60's cool Christmas - the look and feel was very much like a 60's Holiday Special and the songs were made to fit the time - swinging early to mid-60's cool.

Everyone has their opinion, but I really liked the show and the music fit in nicely. That does not mean everyone would like it...

I guess that's the one downfall of buying tickets directly at the theatre, without going through Ticketmaster or Telecharge.

I've been playing it nonstop for the past 2 days since it arrived. I love, love, LOVE the "Living Color" number! It seems a really exciting opening number, and I can't wait to see how it is staged.

And "Fly, Fly AZway" is gorgeous.

Everyone has their right to their opinion, yes. Some people haven't been wowed by this sampler and that's completely fair. The music does fall flat. Having seen it in Seattle in 2009, witha full orchestra the music was GLORIOUS. Especially the opening number, when comparing to this sample.

I haven't received a sampler cd in years, a lot of years. Is this a new trend? I get lots of mailers, but not this one (yet).

I'm enjoying mine very much. I disagree with your assessment and think that all of the sample songs are tremendously better than what Dolly wrote for 9 to 5. Listening to the cd has certainly has made me even more excited about seeing the show, and I was already looking forward to it.

I know people who had seen it in Seattle and there were very mixed feelings. Some people were completely wowed and some were disappointed, expecting more. From what I hear, it is supposed to be one of the best movie-musicals so far. Though who knows until it actually opens!

For me, the CD was the first real look that I had of it, I really did enjoy it! I thought the music was MUCH better than 9-5. It did have a very 60's vibe and "Fly Fly Away" is just great.
