There's no official date yet, but it looks like Chita is near closing.

That is sad. But I'm happy for Chita that the show is going to have an international tour and that it's not dead.

"Last Weeks before International Tour"
so it's not really closing.
Alas, the last cheap ploy to sell tickets. It should say "LAST WEEK". And what about the few people who bought those seats for that dance class thing, I hope they are still going to honor that. Adore Chita, But this show was the worst flop of her career.
No closing date has been officially announced.
Yankee, Ig et what you're saying, but it's not gonna go on tour without Chita, so that's definitely saying something for a closing.

Jimmirae. you should have seen merlin. you might not be so quick to judge this show as a flop
This show is hardly the worst flop of Chita's career.

this is too bad
i really wished this show was going to do well
and she never wrote back to me either...
Chita had some great songs in Merlin, including "I Can Make It Happen" and "In Time Nobody Will Remember Him." Even though the show was a mess, Chita's stage presence made it slightly enjoyable, I'm sure.

Bring Back Birdie
[Original, Musical, Comedy] Performer: Chita Rivera Mar 5, 1981 - Mar 7, 1981 (not including previews)
This is probably the biggest flop. Although I adore the cast album!
Bring Back Birdie - 4 performances
I think that qualifies as the worst.

But what of Casper, The Musical?

What of it? I don't think it was meant as a serious project and even if it was, she had already committed to The Visit in Chicago. Her run in Casper was limited from the start.
I feel like this is one show that can't be coined as a success or failure.
I mean, yeah, it wasn't what it should have/could have been. But let's face it, it was to see Chita perform, right? That's not an excuse for a poor show, but it is the marketing ploy.
I doubt anyone said, "WOW - Chita is amazing. One of my favorites. Let's go see her on Broadway! Oh, but the reviews....Oh well, forget it."
I think therein lies the problem of her fan base.
Bring Back Birdie may have had a bad book, but the music is wonderful...especially Chita's three big numbers. Chita was nice enough to sign my Bring Back Birdie poster this Sunday after the matinee. I was worried that she wouldn't sign since it was such a huge flop, but she did! I definitely consider myself Bring Back Birdie's biggest fan.

and "Zenda"
and "1491"
maybe now "The Visit" will finally get off the ground....
I saw her show twice. The woman is a legend. It was worth seeing just to see her perform.
Who does not love Chita? Just Rita?
LOL.

Hopefully a cd or dvd will be recorded and it can be sold at the theatres during the tour performances. I'm still holding out hopes for this to be put out on DVD...

Looks like Drowsy Chaperone should have waited a week or two.
A real shame
We saw it with 2 other couples who loved it. I am also glad we finally met her after NINE
Chita Rivera is a class act. She is an amazing dancer and person. Truly an inspiration for anyone that has ever been a gypsy. I love her!
