What!? She's like the elphaba replacement queen! Even if Emily and Rachel were out wouldn't they still have the understudy?

I'm a Christine Dwyer fan so I started following this earlier in the week when she tweeted that you might see her at the Gershwin in coming weeks. From what I understand, Emily Koch left the Broadway role of Elphaba standby and appears headed to the lead in the national tour. 

 

Christine Dwyer has stepped back in as a temporary standby on Broadway and was on tonight. Rachel Tucker is still under contract for Elphaba lead. Dwyer seems to be the go-to when these crazy situations come up - says a lot about her professionalism and ability to step right in.

Did they not have enough time to find a standby replacement? I'm so happy for Emily. She is such a talent I could tell she would be lead from the get go. Also did Tess leave too?

So happy. Christine is one of my all-time favorite Elphabas. With either Rachel or Christine at the helm, Wicked will be in completely good hands for a while.

They have a standby replacement chosen, but they have to complete a project they're already working on and also rehearse, so Christine is filling in between Emily and the new standby. 

Tess did leave, yes. She is doing Diner in Delaware, and has been replaced by Ginna Claire Mason (Newsies, Flashdance tours).

I was just wondering what Ginna was doing the other day since Duck Commander closed. It's great to hear!

 

Wicked has a group of people they can draw on in a moments notice for all of their productions. It's not unheard of for someone to be called on Friday morning, in rehearsal Friday afternoon and Saturday, (Sunday off), and in the show on a Monday after a quick put-in. Their production calendar with everyone's first and last performances is hilarious to look at because people just pop in for a week at a time, or will swing one week, then go on a new contract in a set track for 3, take two weeks off, then come back in one of the two.

^ Think she's just taking a show off as Wicked is doing 12 shows in a row this week. I believe she hasn't called out in about a month so she's probably just fine.

Most Elphabas miss about one show a week simply because the role is very demanding. I wouldn't read too much into Rachel not being in this evening.

Calm down. Rachel is fine but probably tired and needed a show off since they are doing like 12 in a row. Emily left as someone said.

Calm down. Rachel is fine but probably tired and needed a show off since they are doing like 12 in a row. Emily left as someone said. 

Yeah I think the past 10 replies justified Christine's performance tonight but thanks anyways.

reminds me of the time when Gina Beck stepped in as "emergency cover" for Christine in POTO @ West End because every standby / understudy plus the lead was either out sick or on a planned vacation.

^Not at all the same. Rachel is there and so is Hannah. Christine is just filling in until the new standby can get there.

Christine is not taking over. No need for caps lock. She is the current standby. Emily left the Broadway company. Rachel is still the principal Elphaba through June.

I am curious how long Christine is expected to stay before the new standby arrives?

Christine is the ultimate Wicked Broadway pinch hitter. A few weeks after her contract had ended, she stepped back in as the lead for a while last year when Caroline Bowman was out with her injury.
