CHUCK AND LARRY vs. HAIRSPRAY — Page 3

I saw both films yesterday...a Friday afternoon in Minneapolis. Chuck and Larry had about, oh, 25 people in the audience whereas Hairspray was totally sold out...at 1:30 in the afternoon. I'm not saying this is any indication because I've seen many movies in my town that do great business and then don't open anywhere near #1.
Aside from Chuck and Larry just being distasteful (to MANY minority groups) it's not remotely funny. People who enjoy this probably also count Norbit as one of the best movies of 2007. I'm sorry...if a movie could have less than zero laughs C & L would be it. And the audience seemed to agree...I didn't hear anyone laugh once. The Hairspray crowd was bustling and gave great reaction.
I think the sheer fact that movie has been critically well received and, for the most part, audience well received is good in and of itself. Many movies don't make that hurdle.

i don't think Chuck and Larry won the crowd. More people loved Hairspray than Chuck. It is very sad, though...

Umm, yeah that's why I was referring to the week (Monday - Thursday).

It doesn't really matter how Hairspray did against Chuck & Larry . . . for its genre, it did spectacularly well. According to an article on boxofficemojo.com, Hairspray delivered "the biggest opening on record for a musical, even when ticket price inflation is taken into account."

I think everyone should be able to agree that the movie is a box office success! (And sorry if this has already been posted in another thread . . .)

Mateo who do you have dressed up as Tuxedo Mask in your icon?
I'll see both movies, in due time.

Someone you don't particulary like.
Zac Efron.

I never said I didn't like him, I think he's a cutie patootie. I'm not in love with him or anything.
Maybe when he gets older he'd make a good Tuxedo Mask. They need to make a Sailor Moon movie.

Oh, I must have mistook you for someone else- sorry.
Yeah- I would love to produce/direct a Sailor Moon movie- It's a strong passion of mine.
Yes, thats what I told my friend- in about 2 years he would look like Tux.

One of my dreams is to write the first season as a movie. I think it'd be great. It'll probably happen sooner or later though. Once Hollywood gets finished with raping the last generation's childhood they'll start on mine.
Yeah I think Tuxedo Mask needs to look a little older bu not too much older... like, not creepy older. Who do you think would make a good Sailor Moon?

There have been attempts- once in the mid/late 90's as a Gina Davis vehicle.
I just think Nakayoshi/Toei are very protective of the property- to get those rights to make an American film would be very hard.
I dont know if there is anyone in Hollywood right now I see as Sailor Mooon. A studio would want a face- I'd want an unknown.
Casting that - you would probably see every 15-20 year old girl on the planet.

Very true. I think it would have to be a few years also, because right now I think Hollywood would want to go in a camp direction, which is unwise because there's a great story behind the silly anime factor.
I think Sailor Moon has enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in Japan lately because they just did a live action television version. I thought it was a bit bizarre though, I won't lie.

I think we shold also remember that Hairspray opened in a lot less theaters then in C&L..... so techinically it is doing better in my eyes.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
