CLOSED!

Posted: 9/6/10 at 8:01am

Today, five major West End theatres -Shaftesbury, Garrick, Comedy, Geilgud, and Novello- are dark, all having closed their shows over the last 2 days.
Come this weekend the Duchess will join them.
All the above theatres have incoming shows very soon but its been a while since so many have been closed at the same time.

Bring on the new!

Now, now I know how much you love 'We Will Rock You'.

How envious we on the west side of the Atlantic are of the busy West End theater scene. On Broadway today it's big news that a musical has booked a currently dark theater and will open in April!

Yes, but meanwhile you have other shows to comfort you. Fact: there was not a single PLAY on Broadway for a couple of weeks in August/September, in the time between the closing of Lend Me A Tenor and the previewing of Mrs. Warren's Profession. Pathetic, huh?

It has never ceased to amaze me how long Broadway theatres stay dark between shows, months, years even.
London mostly just a few weeks.
Ahhh the good old West End.

To be fair, the new B'way season is INCREDIBLE. The next year in the west end will only be a slight step up from this past year by the looks of it.

The grass is always greener...

The buzz here in the States is how dull and flop-prone the new Broadway season looks!

Really? 'The Scottsboro Boys' musical is headed to Broadway in October isn't it?

The great thing with human brains is they're fanless, nice and quiet although I'm sure mine whistles a bit sometimes.

'Boys' is great but it will be gone in a flash.
