I wonder if there's any chance of getting Kelli & Paulo back for this.
Paulo will be in it, as he's in the current cast.
The broadcast will almost assuredly feature only the current cast, just like the previous Live from Lincoln Centers did. Both The Light in the Piazza and Contact did not feature the original casts.

I just saw the tour in Los Angeles this weekend and was surprised at how much I didnt like the show....Carmen Cusack as Nellie was fine as was Bloody Mary, but Rod Gilfrey as Emile was just awful -- he. of course, sings marvelously, but, like many opera singers he CAN'T ACT and appears awkward simply moving around the stage -- I never bought the relationship between him and Nellie for a minute. But, the worst casting is Matthew Saldivar as Billis! He's playing Billis like a slimy NY street hustler with body movements out of In The Heights....he maybe gets 25% of the laughs he should be getting....you know it's a problem when Professor and Stewpot are funnier and more memorable. I also thought director Sher really nailed Happy Talk, but it was a bit creepy to see a Liat who looks like she's all of 14 years old!
^^^^^
I saw it twice and agree.
Rod is especially awkward in the scenes where he is supposed to be playful. He’s very stiff.
I love that the girl playing Bloody Mary is about 10 years younger than the girl playing her daughter who is actually in her late 30’s…
And you are spot on about Billis. WAY too New York street thug. Stewpot was a riot!

This is exciting!
I saw it this weekend also for the first time and I loved it. I thought Carmen Cusack was great (probably my favorite performance in this show) and the crowd loved the guy played Emile. I didn't really notice anything about his acting. But now that I think about it he was a bit stiff. Since it was my first experience with the show I didn't see anything wrong with Billis. It seemed to me that Bloody Mary was the more comedic role though. And the guy playing Cable had a glorious voice.
Bloody Mary can be VERY comedic, but I loved how "HAPPY TALK" was rather dark.

Kelli O'Hara, who won critical acclaim for her performance as Nellie Forbush in Lincoln Center Theater's production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC will return to the production on Tuesday, August 10 and perform the role through Sunday, August 22 when the musical plays the final performance of its record-breaking run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. On Wednesday, August 18, the Tony Award winning production, directed by Bartlett Sher, will be broadcast nationally at 8pm on PBS' "Live From Lincoln Center."
Rodgers & Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC currently stars Laura Osnes as Nellie Forbush and William Michals as Emile deBecque, while that role's originator, Tony Award winner Paulo Szot, fulfills an opera commitment in Spain. Mr. Szot returns to the production beginning Tuesday, July 6.
This news makes me so very happy. I loved seeing South Pacific with a majority of the revival cast. So excited for this show to be broadcast. It was beginning to look a lot like The Light in the Piazza, with them finally filming it after both Matthew Morrison and Kelli O'Hara had already departed. I'm all smiles now that she is returning.

This is the same thing that happened to Marissa Perry in "Hairspray." The producers wanted the orginal star wanted to be on stage for the closing night performance of a successful musical.
Do you mean Marissa Jaret Winokur?

I am talking about Marissa Perry, who played the role before Winokur returned. It was unfortunate that she was forced to give up her job when the original star was asked to return. I feel really sorry for Laura Osnes that she won't close the show.
Thanks for clearing that up as I didn't follow Hairspray and was a little confused when you mentioned "Marissa Perry" and "original star." Updated On: 6/1/10 at 06:35 PM

They are still getting paid their full salaries because of their contracts. Kelli is only taking over because of the filming. If it didn't happen then I would almost guarantee Laura would be closing the show.

Does anyone know if they're going to use color filters on the camera lenses during the musical numbers?
I'm a little unfamiliar with how widely the Live from Lincoln Center performances are aired. Do they usually air in Boston or is it only in the tri-state area? Would love to catch this on TV.
Live From Licoln Center airs on PBS and shows across the country. At wiidly different airing times.
Matthew Morrison, who originated the role of Lieutenant Joseph Cable in the current Broadway production of SOUTH PACIFIC, may be returning to the production in order to appear in the 'Live from Lincoln Center' performance on August 18, the Los Angeles Times reports. According to a Lincoln Center spokesman, Morrison's return will depend on his filming schedule for GLEE, the hit television show of which he is a star.

That'd be great if Matthew returned as well. I was at Opening Night last night in Los Angeles and spotted Matthew in the audience. I thought they might acknowledge his presence/bring him up on stage at the end, but they didn't.
Wow that would be amazing.
Now if they could do something about me having to settle for a bootleg copy...
It would be amazing if Morrison returned...Andrew Samonsky, the current Cable, is ridiculously terrible.
^ Couldn't agree more
Does anyone know anything else about Paolo returning?
Paulo has been scheduled to return at the end of July since before the filming was decided.
