Center Theatre Group Artistic Director Michael Ritchie and Broadway producer Joey Parnes announced today that the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, “Crazy for You,” with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and a book by two-time Tony Award nominee Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor), will be produced by Center Theatre Group in an exclusive pre-Broadway engagement at the Ahmanson Theatre. Susan Stroman (“The Producers,” “Show Boat,” “Contact), who won the first of her five Tony Awards for choreographing the original 1992 Broadway production of the musical, will direct and choreograph this limited Los Angeles engagement which will begin performances February 7, 2018, and run through March 18, 2018.

While this news thrills me since I love Crazy for You, I really was hoping for Sunset Blvd to make its way to LA

It would be have been great to get Sunset, although, my bank account will be happy it didn't.

Nice to get a rerun one of the great Susan Stroman stagings, but this seems like a very odd choice given the zeitgeist in 2017. I'd rather see a revisit of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS.

Oh. Well, that's disappointing, after all that mystery and build-up. I'll still probably see it, though. Never saw the original.

Didn't we just see that last year?
Do you know anything about the version of THE RED SHOES that is coming? Is it related to the Jute Style flop?

Posted: 6/8/17 at 5:16amI saw the original. It had its modest charms, mainly the choreography and musical staging. But I'd much rather see a revival of Girl Crazy, the Gershwin show on which it is based, with the original Russell Bennett orchestrations. I'd even prefer to see an Encores type concert version of Gershwin's original instead of Crazy for You. Updated On: 6/8/17 at 05:16 AM

It was great fun that night in Lincoln Center, although it must be said that the audience was extraordinarily energized and ready to love it.
Tony Yazbeck was the one essential member of the cast.

NoName3... OlBlueEyes is most definitely correct. There was a one-night concert version of the show (celebrating its 25th anniversary) at Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center back in Feb. Tony Yazbeck and Laura Osnes played the leads.

Absolutely, bdboston, I googled Crazy for You Lincoln Center and found out I was wrong only after I had posted. My apologies, OlBlueEyes.
Meanwhile, while posting in this thread, I've had the local CBS early morning news on TV and weather forecaster John Elliot just talked about what a beautiful day it will be today and then added "Who could ask for anything more?"

This 'Red Shoes' looks to be the Matthew Bourne dance adaptation of the film, using Bernard Herrmann's music. I think it might have had a production or two in the UK of recent times.

It's interesting to note that Signature Theatre in Arlington is doing both "Crazy For You" and "Scottsboro Boys" next season.
I am definitely looking forward to the new staging that Signature Theatre will be doing. Considering it's being directed by Matthew Gardiner, - who led their brilliant "West Side Story" which surpassed the NYC revival 1000% and who directed their incredible immersive staging of "Jellys Last Jam" last year - this sounds like the production to see.

I agree with Marc. Since Ken Ludwig lives in the DC area and has past involvement with Signature (his Fox on the Fairway premiered there), I wouldn't be surprised if he had a hand in the production as well.

I was vey much hoping it was Sunset, but I am also very excited about this. It was one of the first shows I saw when I was !3 or 14! I really hope she recreates the original choreography which I remember to be thrilling!

You needn't apologize, NoName. For whatever you maligned me, you already had edited it out before I could see it.
There was a long curtain call, with additional song and dance, and an address to the audience by Susan Stroman. After the performance, the elite, including Mel Brooks wearing a bright red handkerchief in his suit pocket, went on to the dinner dance, and I went on to the Q train.
The audience was still on a high and the two topics being discussed on the way out were (1) "They put in all that work and all that rehearsal for just one performance" and (2) "Do you think that this will be on Broadway next season." Most thought that it would.

I will say, the one thing: it's the third Gershwin musical this decade on Broadway. It's one thing if they all have different musicals, but NICE WORK IF YOU CANT GET IT, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS and CRAZY FOR YOU have a lot of the same music. Just a little bit of overkill, but I'm excited to see it in LA!

Crossing my fingers Tony and Laura end up reprising their roles.

As someone mentioned in the Bandstand closing thread, Ms. Osnes is now open for this LA production. It's slated to run through March 15-could it squeeze in for a Broadway run by late April with a short preview period? Has turnaround from out-of-town ever happened that quickly?

It is odd that they're calling it Pre-Broadway and it's closing out of town March 18th. They must be planning to bring it in the following season either fall 2018 or spring 2019. I have to assume there would be no time to preview and open on Broadway that late before the Tony cut off.

If Laura ends up attached to this LA run, I might actually have to take a few days off and a drive down south. The one night only concert looked so fun and while there's a lot of things I wish to live in NYC to see, this is one of the few I was LONGING to see. From the rehearsal footage and all the pictures and then the show footage, it looked like such a delightful night.
