Oh my God. I know I've gone on about how useless it was to bring back Les Mis, and that this makes me a hypocrite, but I was speechless when I saw the Playbill article. I loved this production so, so much. I can't explain how happy I would be to be able to see it again. I hope this is true.
I always said it never should have closed.
Yes! Yes! A million times, yes!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so amazingly happy right now.
It is true, Emcee. I really wonder who leaked the info to Reidel because I was all but sworrn to secrecy.
I also think that it's too soon and might call attention to some financial troubles (it seems a bit desperate) - but this production remains one of the greatest things I've ever seen, and I'm more than happy to welcome it back.
If only they would rip all the seats out again and insert tables...oh, well.
I completely forgot about that, Munk.
It won't be the same.
I wonder if they plan to re-stage it or return the stage to a modified thrust like it once was.
Oh, I agree, munk -- I loved it so much that personally, I'm willing to overlook those kinds of motives. It may be the only show I loved as much or more than I love the Company revival. I feel like I wish I'd gotten the chance to know it better, but I was so late to the game, so this is thrilling news for me.
Em...we're going.
I agree. I think it's the best revival I have ever seen.
I bet that they will have to extend the stage and make it a thrust again - but definitely keep the seats in.
Somehow, I don't feel like this will go over well.
As much as I love CHICAGO, I would much rather have seen that Kander and Ebb revival close than this one.
I always felt this revival was far superior and still had a lot of steam left in it when it closed.
I feel like there are quite a few changes to the interior of the theater that would be needed in order to go back to exactly how it was, and I wonder if the parts requiring changes wouldn't just be restaged. One of the things that was so brilliant about the production was its consistent breaks of the fourth wall, particularly through the Emcee, and losing those moments would make me sad. I at least hope they'd put those catwalks on the side back in... they're kind of crucial to the staging.

While I don't know I how I feel about the phenomenon of Broadway trying to recreate that golden age of 1998, I do agree that revival of Cabaret was pretty fantastic. Even if she's probably unavailable (and maybe a little long in the tooth), I'd love to see Natasha Richardson as Sally again.
I had heard rumours of Richardson doing something with CABARET this year, so perhaps that will happen.
If Cumming is doing it, at least it's something to entice Richardson.

Way too soon. I adored the production with all my heart and soul and hated that I missed seeing Alan....but I don't know. I just got more of a sinking feeling than the soaring feeling I expected.

I love her so.
I think its absurd for a not for profit to be reviving a revival...
That said - if they could get back Alan Cumming AND Natasha Richardson and somehow preserve it for broadcast, I'd be happy.

i'd love to see Susan Egan in it again. she was amazing as Sally.
I think it's strange, but not "absurd."
The money made from CABARET would go to other productions. I don't see anything wrong with that.

*Don't get your hopes up yet, don't get your hopes up yet, don't get your hopes up yet*
Okay if this happens, I will probably scream for joy.
Seriously. For once in my life I don't have one inkling about what to say. Wow.
I am so freaking excited. I missed Alan but I did get to see Susan Egan and Adam Pascal who were both phenomenal.
Missed it the first time. Cumming was one of the best things about ThreePenny, so it would be superb to see him re-create his role as Emcee in CABARET.
I think it would be cool if they brought this back for a strictly limited run every few years or so. This would (A) give Roundabout a definite income and continued availability at their Studio 54 site, both of which would (B) allow them to keep producing other works. And it would (C) continuously allow new (and old) audiences to experience a fantastic, entertaining, important show.
You know, it would be like, "OK, it's been 4 years... time for another 6 months of 'Cabaret.'"
"How about Toni Collette for Sally?"
Collette would be (IMO) about as close to perfect casting as you can get for Sally, but after her experience doing "The Wild Party" several years ago she's extremely hesitant of ever coming back to the stage again.
Raspberry: I disagree. I don't thiink that's a good idea. Plus, the load in and out would almost cost more money than a 6 month run could possibly bring in.
wicked: What has Collette said about the matter?
Collette was denied permission by AEA to replace Natasha Richardson, so I'm not sure how enthusiastic or not she'd be to come back and do the role now...
Collette had a very difficult relationship with Mandy Patinkin during THE WILD PARTY and said in an interview in Genre magazine last year that the entire experience really turned her off from doing Broadway again.
