Yipee! Yipee! Yipee! Yipee! Yipee! Yipee!
This news made my day!
Yipee!
As excited I am that CABARET is returning.. the best part of that column had to be this
" And it was.
I made a grave error in my column last week when I wrote that "Legally Blonde" hadn't received a single Outer Critics Circle nominations. In fact, it got one - for Judy's client, Orfeh, the powerhouse singer who plays Pauline, the manicurist.
I switched on my computer a few minutes later, and was inundated with e-mails. One writer said he was "appalled" by what I'd done.
Orfeh's certainly got fans - and they're scary!
So I stand corrected. I'm in awe of her talents, and I predict a Tony nomination in her future.
So leave me alone. Please!"
Frickin' hilarious.

Hopefully they'll have the tables as rush seats again. What a way to see the show.
Hopefully they'll have tables.
Wow, I'm surprised that they're doing this so soon. Exciting nonetheless.

Ooh, I've wanted Jane Krakowski to be Sally for years. That...would actually be pretty cool.

I have one VERY big concern.
Who is directing this production?
Will it be treated like a replacement rehearsal period, with blocking taught by assitants, and Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall coming in for a day or two?
That seems the most plausible since both men are quite busy.
The quality of the production, which will get re-reviewed, could dip if the entire production has such a half-a***d rehearsal period, in my opinion.
(Having seen the production several times, with several replacement casts, I often found the replacements to be giving adequate performances but only rarely near the level of detail and depth that the original cast had - possibly due to casting choice and that the original cast had WEEKS of rehearsals with the directors.)
I just find this to be questionable since it is essentially going to be a revival of this production (like Les Miz) and the tone and quality are highly dependent on who is at the helm. (Most recently, Brantley found differences in the current "tinny" Les Miz and the original.)
And what about casting choices other than alan? Replacement-level casting (i.e. tv stars)? or casting closer to original or first and second-string replacements (i.e jennifer jason-leigh)?
im excited about the possibilities - and to have the production back - but there are some decisions that could seriously affect the shows ability to create the same success it had the first go-around.

that's exactly what I thought - I really want to hear about the creative team behind this thing
I think this is excellent news. Yes, it might be too soon. So what? If it's the same production, it will be wonderful. And the chance to see Alan Cumming (outside of YouTube) ... I'll be there.

Funny.. I thought Orfeh played Paulette!
Leave it to Reidel to make an error in his correction of an error.
I am playing Sally Bowles.
lol
now wouldn't THAT 'alienate' some people
LOL
Brian,
PLEASE audition.
You would be fabulous somewhere...ANYWHERE in this production.

I see the initials BCR written all over it. Even as the airy tenor on the recording of Tomorrow Belongs To Me? Just for us?
My Frau Schneider choice is Jill Haworth. What is she up to? Still alive?
or
Just tell Donna Murphy that LoveMusik has transfered to to Studio 54.

Jill is still alive and apparently living well in NYC last I read.

Does anybody know when it will be playing?
All the article said was "after SUNDAY IN THE PARK WIT GEORGE."
I know this goes against the reason they're reviving this revival - to make a safe buck - but I wish they'd bring over the new London production instead! I prefer it to the Mendes one. I did love the Mendes one, but it didn't make me obsessed with the show as the new London production has. I think it's a far more ambitious and interesting take on the material, and it's visually and musically far superior to the Mendes version.
Also, there's just nothing in the entire Mendes production that comes close to the sheer theatricality of the moment in Rufus Norris' production when Ernst says "welcome to Berlin!" and the massive metallic frontcloth flies away to reveal the glorious, grotesque green and purple Berlin...

The idea is that they're doing it for Alan Cumming and Kate Winslet (makes sense, as her husband is Sam Mendes). That's the word on the street at least...
Let me just say the one time I saw this production live, the emcee was Jon Secada. That's all I need to say (granted, I was young and was not at all critical of performers/Broadway, so thought he did a great job, but of course knowing what I do now, I would be so thrilled to see ANYONE else.) So I am thrilled to hear this news, no matter who plays the emcee, but especially if it's Alan.
Kate Winslet could be an interesting Sally.
In fact, I'd be thrilled to just see this production with my increased...participation(?) in Broadway, to see it a few times. Cabaret I think is up there with some of the most brilliant shows ever produced, so this is just beyond awesome.
And for the record, I would jump for joy if Miss Saigon was revived on Broadway.

I'm glad this production is coming back. Please don't let Jon Secada EVER reprise the role, whoever is in charge.
So I guess that means there's no chance of Sunday extending? I suppose that would've been fairly unlikely anyway given the London cast. I'm so excited about both shows.

Rush seats, and not money, make the world go around.
I for one am happy about this as the tour with NBL was the first broadway esque experiance I ever had. If and when they are doing replacements they should go with Raul again. He was as good if not better than Cummings.

Yeah I'm one of the few that isnt too crazy about Cumming either
Did you even see Alan Cumming live? I don't see how one can prefer a replacement over the original, considering every replacement Emcee was basically told to copy his portrayal- Raul included. Well, unless your preference has little if anything to do with the character portrayal and more about how he looks...
