Yay! My chance has arrived!
My first trip to NYC was after Cabaret closed (and before Assassins had opened)
Now I can finally see it, and with Alan no less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to see Cabaret, as I missed it's first run. However, I was hoping "Sunday..." would extend. Hopefully that's still a possibility.
I'm still in this totally bizarre euphoric state, where I want to run around the room and cheer. I can't believe I'm going to get to see it again.
Me too Emcee...I honestly don't know what to do with myself. As far as Alan's revival performance, I have very high hopes. I think it is a genuine point that he could take it over the top the second (or third) time around, but I just saw him in Bent in London last fall and was blown away. It was by far the best performance I have ever seen and made me long to somehow see him in Cabaret for myself, as I was only ten when the show opened. As far as casting, I would love to see Anna Maxwell Martin (playing Sally in London) brought over to Broadway. The shows are very different, but she completely embodies the Sally of Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories, in my opinion, and could easily take on the Mendes-Marshall production. I am already counting down the days. I still can't believe this is happening...

well done - you totally missed my point.

I think the Emcee allows for some of that, MB.
Cyndi as Sally!
(Ha. Toni Collette would be great. Or, hell! Bring back Natasha Richardson.)
I doubt there would be a recording, since it sounds like they plan on restarting the exact same production. A new CD would be like a show releasing a new recording every time the lead actors change.
Toni Collette would be perfect as Sally but as everyone has said, the probability of her coming back to Broadway are very slim.
I actually don't think Jane Krakowski's voice is too "pure" to play the role, I think she'd be an inspired choice and would bring something new to Sally Bowles.
BsoBw, love the Cyndi idea.

I actually had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Cyndi recently.
I asked her about a return to Broadway and she expressed an extreme interest in it, but in something completely opposite of THREEPENNY. She said that the show was an amazing experience but very emotionally draining.
She'd very much like to return in a comedy.
Okay reality check. Cyndi Lauper is in her 50s. Sally has an abortion. That...couldn't happen.
Lauper, would however be a brilliant Kost. But it will never happen.
I am beyond ecstatic! I cannot believe I am going to get the chance to see my favorite musical of all time on Broadway! :) Can't wait!

So hung up in details, MB
A boy's allowed to dream though.
I still think Krakowski would be great though.

I know, this is where I have a Waiting for Guffman "GOD I wish I were in the show!" moment
Krakowski's Sally would probably make you question whether anything she said about herself - her past - even her supposed British heritage - were true. She'd be fascinating.

Haha. I was joking.
Lauper needs something to come back in.
No, Sant, I got your point. Let me rephrase: don't ever use the revival of Cabaret and Les Mis/Mis Saigon/Cats in the same sentence.

Wow I didn't know all that about Colette having difficulties with Patinkin and LaChiusa--too bad because on record anyway she's absolutely sensational in Wild Party
Well, this news is unexpected, at least for me. I feel like it just closed, but I'm not complaining. I never got a chance to see the revival, never mind Alan Cumming. I'll definitely be making multiple trips if this proves true.
People need to stop discussing Jane in here, its making me excited.
My first reaction when someone posted her name was "oh good lord she'd be terrible" but... now I'm really interested. Like.. actually way more than interested. She'd be.. different.

maybe Raul will make a guest appearance, after Company. ha ha, I wish
I understand why Roundabout is doing it, but its a bizarre feeling- tourists can come to NY and always rely on certain shows to "be around"- the vitality and excitement of opening a new show or reimagining an old one (ie a normal revival) is lost when its just the same shows brought back to make $ every few years... its almost like reruns on TV. Unheard of, then it started with just I LOve Lucy, I believe, and now its standard.
that said, Cabaret is a show that is worthy of being brought back, if there ever was one. Its a powerhouse. Never saw Alan Cumming, but I did see John Stamos and Heather Laws (both actually quite good, especially Stamos) back in 2002, and was blown away by this play.
Am i the only one who (not sitting at the tables, but rather in the mezzanine) thought the show would benefit from a smaller house?
Thank GOD! I have been dying to see a production of this for way too long. Can't wait!! :)
If this actually does come into fruitation, I will be insanely pleased.
As for Alan, it would be nice to see him in the role of the Emcee [again]. The poor man just can't seem to escape the persona of an over-sexed, very odd, master of ceremonies. Although, I'm getting the weird feeling he may be too old to play that sort of character right now. Hopefully, I'll be proved wrong.

That's sad, but true. Hey... maybe I could play Kost! ("Just kidding!" )

Agreed, but then it wouldn't be as much of a fundraiser.
I wish I could have seen it in the original theatre. (the Henry Miller, renamed the Kit Kat Klub, I think...? maybe?) I hear it was a lot more intimate.
