CALIGULA reviews:
The New York Times

There is a somewhat mixed review in this week's Time Out (they love Euan Morton, but think the piece is too early Lloyd Webber), and there was a mixed-to-negative review on Talkin' Broadway, but it was of the 3 hour long first public performance. More than twenty minutes have been cut since the first show, and many changes continue to go in.

Deena,
I hate to hijack your thread but I agree, DREAMGIRLS is an INCREDIBLE MUSICAL!!! (I saw original B'way production w/Jennifer Holliday. SPINE-TINGLING!)
Which CD do you prefer, OBC or Concert Version?

Posted: 10/8/04 at 11:47amMost reviews were written from seeing the Festival performances and the show runs more around 225-230 (with intermission) now. A significant amount of extraneous information has been cut and it runs A LOT smoother now. (Things continue to change with each day and it just keeps getting better.)

Posted: 10/8/04 at 12:04pmI saw it Wednesday, and the first act was TIGHT. Second act could still be cut a bit. It run betters than the reviews from two weeks ago stated.

Mary Ethel,
I love the Dreamgirls original - it was the first Bway show I ever saw and I did see the original cast. Jennifer broke my heart. It rarely leaves my CD player. But I am thrilled to have the entire score on the concert version even though Tamara Tunie is AWFUL.

Deena,
I agree re: concert CD.
Just how hard do you think Ms. Tunie had to work to become so unaccomplished?
