I heard that there is either a library or some public place that has copies of every play and musical to hit broadway I think in the last 20 years. A recording of the opening night, or somthing along those lines. According to the source one cannot borrow them, if you wish to see them you must view them in a viewing room...
Whewn i heard it my sceptical ears just disregarded it, but could it be...could it be possible that perhaps there is a place where i could go back and see productions of mythical standing that i ahve missed only beacuse i was born far too late?! Gosh wouldnt hat be somthing...
So if any of you know anything to confirm or deny this please feel free to post it...
Oh,by the by, i live in miami but am planning to be in NY twix the 25 and 29th. This may sound odd but it is very difficult to find out what shows have student or rush tickets from down here so if anyone knows anything helpful please let me know...im sorry if that information was posted somewhere else ...im new to this posting stuff...

What I heard is that there is a secret undergound museum and the password to get in changes every single day but if you know the password you can see, like, every costume from every Broadway show for like the last 15 years or even more ancient than that. It's either near the Brooklyn Bridge or Lincoln Center.
That's what I heard. I think you can get the secret password at BroadwayBox.
playbill.com and talkinbroadway.com list all of the student rush and standing room policies. They vary by theatre.
Ignore Namo. Like TDB said, the videos are archived at Lincoln Center's library, but I don't know how easy it is to gain access. You'd have to get in touch with Lincoln Center.

Theres all the student rush/lottery info. Enjoy your trip!
FindingNamo - you just made my day. I'm on my way downtown now. I think you're right-it's under the Brooklyn Bridge. I CAN'T WAIT to see Antonio's hat from Nine.
Thank GOD they have his hat! I heard they couldn't get the stains out of Krakowski's sheet!

I'm sure you won't be. I wouldn't worry.

As for the Lincoln Center Library Archive, you must have a valid reson to view the tape of the show like you are directing it, acting in a production or studying it. Advance booking may be necessary.
You can't just stop in and say, "Show me 'City of Angels' " for instance.

But, WOSQ, do you think i would have to prove it to them as in show them a reciept for the rights... i mean lets say i simply told them "Back home, im directing a production of The Scarlet Pimpernel..." would that be enough?
I walked in and said "Show me YOUR OWN THING" and Betty Corwin slapped me...

I'm sure the person at the desk would say, "You are? That must be a terrible assignment."
I came all the way from Australia and I had to get permission from the Musician's Union before they'd let me watch a tape!!!

The other thing you need to know is they most assuredly do not have every show archived from the last 20 years. They actually go back at least thirty - I know they have the original Company - but they don't have every show. They never archived a Fosse show, for example. (How embarrassing for them...)

How awesome would that be. I would love to see it and I think that even though it is cool that they let you view it.
wildcat, I do hope you're kidding. You should only have to call and make an appointment. You can just tell them you're working on a show - that's all it takes. People on this very message board have gotten in by just that means - with no actual truth to their reason.
There are, however, shows you need a VERY good reason to see ie. DREAMGIRLS.
Rath...There was a list of shows you could see, but only if it had been five years since their closing night. Anything more recent and I had to get permission from the Musos Union. It arrived the DAY I was flying out of New York, so I spent my last morning at Lincoln Centre watching a tape and nervously looking at my watch. Not ideal circumstances, but it was worth it!

"They never archived a Fosse show"
If this is true, does anyone know why not?

maybe cuz alot of the Fosse shows are taped and sold commercially? just a guess.

Umm...aside from Pippin, which Fosse show has been sold commercially?? (Or are you referring to the fact that movies were made out of some of them...not the same thing!)
Anyone who knows where I can get a copy of Dancin' commercially, kindly PM me!!
um if your just looking for the script....theres a library in DC that has like everything ever published...stuff may be there
