I had the pleasure of seeing this film in NYC, seated in the same row with Carol, her late husband and several of her NYC friends. It was a wonderful experience and the film captured her personality beautifully.

Watched tonight too- what a charming documentary. Lesson to young performers- talent is half the battle- find someone who has a single bad thing to say about her- the secret to her success is that thrilling combination of heart and unique charm that is never forced or fake- a true gem!

James Kirkwood had plenty of bad things to say about Carol in his book "Diary of a Mad Playwright"

I have always adored Carol Channing... From Thoroughly Modern Millie to Love Boat to Hello Dolly to Lorelie to Jerry's Girs to anything she has ever done. And I relished every moment of the documentary.

But I have heard people bad mouth her. A friend of mine toured the country with Lorelie. She told me that the Carol blamed the problems with Lorelie on the female chorus instead of on the fact she was too old to play Lorelie. Carol had most of the female chorus replaced before New York. Carol was also not very fond or nice to co star Tamara Long.

Carol is a legend and a brilliant performer. Of course no one involved with the documentary is going to say one negative word. Why would they? But there are two Carols - the one you see in the documentary, and the one who can be very cold - like a sharp-edged knife. I saw both and the latter was not pretty, at least not in my opinion.

But there is no taking away the legend she is, and her public persona is wonderful, funny, charming, and warm - just like in the documentary.
