See this is what I love about these threads. You always learn so much more about different aspects of broadway!

This question might sound strange, considering I am the one who originated this thread, but do you think if I got the soundtrack I would be able to respect the music more because it will grow on me, or will it not help at all?

I strongly recommend the cast recording. It has the libretto, which I love. Also you might want to go to the American Theatre Wing site. It has a video seminar on the show with Tesori, Kushner, Pinkins, Veanne Cox and Hope Clark(choreographer). I gained a lot of insight into the show and main character from watching the seminar.

I sincerely hope it is.

I am 43 years old. Saw Caroline in April. When I saw it I was moved when I left the theatre but wasn't really sure why. It was the 1st show I saw the week I was there. Through 4 other shows it stayed on my mind. Yes I think that if you cannot see the show more than once, get the recording. it will all fall into place. I realized that I had seen one of the best shows, in my opinion, I had seen in a very long time. I loved RENT, WICKED, BARE, Le Miz and a bunch of others. But, for me, this show was like quenching a theatrical thirst (Oh I like that!!!). It is not an "easy" show. And no matter how old you may or may not be, I think this show takes seeing twice or seeing once and then listening to. And when listening to it, I suggest doing both CD's in one sitting the first few times around. Now I could be wrong, but in my opinion, we have been groomed to like all of these big splashy shows, most of which are great entertainment, with special effects, popish music and not much when it comes to the book (With some exceptions of course). A show like Caroline comes along and, uh oh, we have to think a bit!!! It's not fantasy, it pulls from real life. And the score is complicated. I applaud any 15 or 16 year old who has at least seen the show whether they like it or not. I was 14 when I made my first trip to NYC to see a B'way show (The Wiz). I was 12 when I saw my first touring show (Purlie)I thought both were the best thing since sliced bread!! I still think they were/are amazing, but after seeing a few hundred shows in my lifetime, I can now kind of catagorize the shows I see and the ones I liked are great in their own way. I like Caroline because it is an original work and dared to come along this past season and break the mold. But evidently, the theatregoing public is not quite ready for the mold to be broken. My ramble for the day!!!

You guys are really making me want to go see this. Someone I know recommended it to me but I never took the time to see it. Now that it's closing I really want to see it.

Does anyone know if they have general rush tickets available????? Maybe I can try to squeeze it in this weekend.

ok, i would have loved to see the musical, but unfortuenately didn't get the chance. now don't bash me, but everyone deserves the right to their opinions. broadwaychild was being quite respectful and after getting comments agreeing with you. i must say, some of the caroline lovers who bash on such "big" musicals are being hippocritical when someone doesn't like caroline.

I, for one, am not being critical of hippos...NOR am I being hypocritical.

I'm 13 and I thought the show was great. It was very different from anything I had every seen and while I can't say I enjoyed it, I found it incredibly moving.

not saying i wouldn't enjoy the show, just saying people can have their opinions.

The show is exactly the recording. So, give or take a bit for tempo shifts and such, it is roughly the same.
