I do too...I was hoping to see the original German version next year, but as it's closing in a month, that seems incredibly unlikely now. Maybe VBW will put out a DVD of Tanz now that Elisabeth's gone double platinum...

Money. The show lost its $12 million investment, setting a record for flopping.

It's not the last you've heard of Steinman. He is working on a variety of projects that are "Broadway bound"

I was lucky enough to see DOTV the one night that Michael Crawford wasn't there. No offense I do NOT like his voice. Rob Evan who went on that day was phenomenal. I still really enjoyed this show despite most people hating it.

I loved it too. Did not think it deserved the viscious critical vampire venom.

I saw the Broadway production of Dance of the Vampires twice, and must say that I had a fun time. This definitely doesn't mean that I wasn't disappointed, lol, the German version of the show is without a doubt, far superior and entirely different. Tanz Der Vampire is closing in January 2006, but the possibility has arisen that Stage Holding may tour the show throughout Germany. I would love to have a DVD of Tanz Der Vampire and to be quite honest, it is one of the best musicals I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. There are a lot of musicals running in Germany right now that deserve a Broadway bow, ones that are far greater than anything on our musical stages right now...One Can only hope!

See Ya!

Dance of the Vampires has some of THE GREATEST music ever composed for the stage! I just hope this wasn't Steinman's last attempt at Broadway, Rockfenris2005...do you know what exactly he is working on that is theatre bound? I know Batman the Musical has been in the works for some years now, any other musicals that he is working on?

I heard he has been working on putting together a band called The Dream Engine that would perform some old and some new music. They are supposedly playing at Joe's Pub in the spring but I am not exactly sure if this is all true...if anybody knows anything feel free to correct me!

The Confidence Man
Rhinegold
Bat Out of Hell the Musical
Excalibur (with Frank Wildhorn)
Pandora's Box
Beowulf X
Paradise

and, of course, The Dream Engine cabaret

EDIT: Batman the Musical has been cancelled by Warner Bros.
Maybe if Lestat succeeds they'll bring it back?

I too wish I could have seen it, I got very excited about this show and still enjoy it to this day. Perfect campy/Halloween-ish music (even though I listen to it at other times of the year, not just near that holiday re: Carpe Noctem)

The preview version was the best. All the flaws in the story were explained (but, for some reason, were cut before opening night). It's a weird show, even though (and quite famously too) I prefer the German version. My favourite bits in the show (and possibly the most romantic tune I've ever heard) is "A Good Nightmare Comes so Rarely". The "Invitation to the Ball," in the Previews, was the true meaning of Broadway. It completely blew me away.

Among the shlock, there were some stunning moments that would have given Lloyd Webber a run for his money: namely, the music of "God has Left the Building" (possibly the loudest music ever played on Broadway), the Invitation (of course), "Death is Such an Odd Thing," a very cool cabaret number and everything after "Braver Than we Are" before the end of Act One. "Total Eclipse" also, despite how you can hear the audience laughing, is one of Crawford's best performances IMO and the first time I heard it just blew me away. "For Sarah" really didn't deserve to be there, it belongs in another show Steinman wrote - The Confidence Man with Ray Errol Fox.

The show was beautiful as it is, a powerful and ironic spoof, but it became an amazing score trapped in one of the worst books I've ever encountered.

EDIT: Next stop for Vampires: TOKYO!
