There's no way the revival could flop if it had this cast:
Carrie: Celia Keenan-Bolger
Mrs. White: Carolee Carmello
Miss Gardner: Linzi Hately (original Carrie)
Chris: Orfeh
Billy: Andy Karl
Sue: Marissa Jaret Winokur
Tommy: Cheyanne Jackson
And if Sam Mendes directed....perfection!
Any thoughts?
Ooooh, Carolee Carmello as Margaret White?
Excuse me while I melt in my chair...
Not to sound catty, but Chris and Sue are the popular girls and they really both need to "look" like the chicks every girl wants to be and every guy wants to...well you know. Marisa Jaret really isn't right for this show.
I'm not sure Carolee has the intensity for Mrs. White. I'd nominate Donna Murphy. Celia would be perfect for Carrie though.
Donna McKechnie would be brilliant as Mrs. White.
Did you see Parade? Carolee has intensity! Donna Murphy would be good too, but her health is not reliable.
I disagree. I think Carolee has intensity in buckets.
Alice Ripley, though a bit young, would also be fierce in the role.
I'm on a Piazza kick (because I just saw it), but Victoria Clark would also be a killer Mrs. White. She plays that sweet southern gentility so well, but she has the intensity when needed as Margaret, too.
Having heard both Betty Buckly and Barbara Cook, I have to say I would vote against Clark. I think her acting of the role would be phenominal, but I want to hear that score belted to the rafters!

Orfeh??? Love her..but...no. Def Carolee...she would be amazing! And you need a black Ms. Gardner-tho I dont know who...Lillias never shows up...and a lot of the current divas are too young or not right. As long as Jen Gambatese isn't in it!!
I don't understand the attraction to Jen G. either...she would nto be in my production. And Miss Gardner doesn't have to be black. She was played by Betty Buckly in the movie.
A black Miss Gardner is not necessary, but Lillias would be perfect, since she understudied it originally.
betty and only betty for mrs. white.
u got that right Garland Grrl!!!!
As long as Betty is still breathing, she is the ONLY one that should be considered for Margaret White.
Athought the show's reviews were incredibly scathing...........every one praised Buckley's intense performance
I definitely think she can still do it...so could Darlene Love..but I'd rather see Lillias.

Isn't Carolee a little young and sweet for Margaret White? She is supposed to be the mother of a teenager, after all.
I'm not sure who could pull it off,now--Betty was incredible, but I think she would have blown her voice out completely in a few weeks had the show run in its first incarnation (like she did in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD.) Maybe Dee Hoty? She knows how to do icy and passionate at the same time--witness her "Could I Leave You?" from the "Broadway First Ladies" concert.
I agree Marissa is wrong for Sue (and besides, what a waste--Sue could be played by a cardboard cutout and a tape recording!) Might she be right for Carrie, if she lost a little weight? It would be kind of the dark side of her Tracy Turnblad.
Sue: Kelli O'Hara
Chris: Laura Bell Bundy
Sue (or Chris): Lauren Kennedy!
Betty Buckley as Margaret
Celia Keenan-Bolger as Carrie
Kristin Chenoweth as Chris
Eden Espinoza as Sue (now there's a cardboard cut-out!)
Kristopher Kusick as Billy
Matthew Morrison as Tommy
and either Rupaul or Coco Peru as Miss Gardner

Alice Ripley & Celia are THE choices for Margaret & Carrie--I will accept no other!!
Haether Headley or Natascia Diaz for Miss Gardner
Laura Benanti as Sue
Laura Bell Bundy as Chris
Gavin Creel as Tommy
...can't think anyone with a little edge or 'danger' for Billy.
One of my favorites, as many of you know, and I am now thinking Patti LuPone for Margaret...she is a mother of a teenager and we all know she could sing it.
Definitely loving Celia for Carrie, tho.
Lillias can still do Miss Gardner...she is ageless.
Chris is the only one who will be tough casting...Charlotte D'Amboise was great, but it is not well written and this girl has to dance well!
Alice Ripley is too young still (40, but she looks too young...hmmm, well maybe - I'd sure love to hear her sing it!)

40 is too young to be the mother of a teenager? hmmm...interesting...

Carrie: Celia (poor Celia - everyone thinks she'd make a great Carrie)
Margaret: Maureen McGovern (she is my second favorite after Betty)
Miss Gardner: Adriane Lenox
I'd rather have unknowns for Sue, Tommy, Chris, Billy
I agree, Betty SHOULD BE Margaret.
I would like to use the London version more, just edit the book a bit.
Buckley was in her early 40's when she played Margaret White.

40 may actually be too old...considering "I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance" we are led to believe (based on just the musical) that Carrie was concerived WAY early.
