Posted: 1/3/06 at 5:24amNo, I want a fresh new cast. That way the leads aren't tired / bored of playing the same role. Plus, you get the option of a second cast recording.

Posted: 1/3/06 at 6:41amI'll say it again, Stephanie D'Abruzzo has found interest in playing this role. It's her dream role.

Posted: 1/3/06 at 6:52amI'm with jgph... I'd like to see Laura Michelle Kelly and Gavin Lee reprise their roles.

Laura and Gavin are both fantastic in those roles, but I think that Kelli O'Hara or Erin Dilly would both make a lovely Mary Poppins. In my opinion, Stephanie D'Abruzzo doesn't have the voice, though I thoroughly enjoyed her performance in Avenue Q. I'd also be quite interested in Megan McGinnis playing this role - I think she's got a very sweet voice that is well suited to Mary Poppins.
Bert is more difficult - Gavin Lee really is fantastic in this role, and I'd be surprised if they could find somebody better - his accent, singing, dancing and acting are excellent, far superior to Dick Van Dyke.

Frankly, with it being a British story, by a British author, it deserves to have real, live, actual BRITISH people in it. Not Americans doing bad British accents. I've wracked my brain to think of American theater stars who could pull it off, and no one comes to mind. And I'm afraid to dissapoint you, but Idina is not right for it. Neither is Chenoweth, Norbert, anyone associated with Wicked, and the list goes on. LOL
Judging from the Broadwayworld.com video previews, it looks like the cast they had in London was "practically perfect in every way." However, no one will ever come quite close to capturing the magic of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.

Posted: 1/3/06 at 10:24amI agree wholeheartedly with JasonM. I saw Chitty and the fake accents just don't work! Its about having a trully spectacular cast and since Disney is making a big "hoopla" about it by moving The Lion King, I believe they will do what it takes to get Laura and Gavin over here!

Posted: 1/3/06 at 10:33amI completely agree with Jason as well. Having actual British actors would make a world of difference. I wish they would bring the London leads, but I don't think Laura Michelle Kelly will be doing Mary.

Ashley Brown as Mary Poppins. Not sure about Bert, though I do love Will Chase.

Laura and Gavin are working on other projects, and cannot come (nor are they being asked to come).
The cast here will (hopefully) be comprised of complete unknowns -- Disney is good about launching careers of those who have the talent.

"Laura and Gavin are working on other project"
Is there any more information that you can provide us with?

Sutton would be a perfect Mary, as for Bert, one of my dance teachers is auditioning for the role, so I hope he gets it, but I could kinda see Raul in that part.

Posted: 1/3/06 at 11:52amMichael Berresse would be a perfect Bert. Did anyone see him in the "It's a Wonderful Life" benefit? What a fabulous dancer! He can sing great and how about his gymnastics in "Kiss Me Kate"? He's wonderful in "Light In The Piazza"---but would be fabulous as Bert.

Erin Dilly!
And Raul, though he'd never do it and has little on-stage chemistry with Dilly, would be an adorable Bert.
