Harvey would be hilarious if they go towards that direction... However, female wise I would love Patti Lupone...
If they go "ethnic" (which I can totally picture), I vote for Sharon Wilkins.
Well since Disney originally created Ursuala as a caricature of Divine (can't you see the resemblance!) maybe Harvey wouldn't be such a bad choice --since he had sucess in another Divine inspired role in Hairspray. However, since this is a Disney production I don't see them casting a man in drag...so I really like the idea of Mary Testa that was mentioned earlier. I think she would be great.
Ok so maybe I missed it, but fill me in on the Emily Skinner story someone...
My vote goes all the way to Bette Midler, although I'd rather see her back on broadway in something more challenging.

When is this supposed to be hitting Broadway, approximately? Actually isn't Harvey contracted to do Hairpsray in Vegas for awhile? I'd vote for Sara Ramirez.
The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney movies and I can't wait to see how they bring it to the stage.
could someone fill me in on the Emily Skinner story as well...thanks!
Skinner dropped out of Disney's On the Record because it was a very unhappy experience for her, from what I've heard. Thus, Disney isn't likely to cast someone who dropped out of one of their shows, in their next big high-profile Broadway show.
that's too bad...Emily Skinner would have been a fabulous Ursula.
thanks for the info.
Not that anyone knows of her, but Poppi Krammer would be fantastic as Ursula. Anyone ever see her at Posh?
Barbara Cook- I would love it. she's so wrong for it that she's right.
Hm...Tyne Daly anyone?
OOO...and I like the idea of Mary Testa, too.
**What about Ashley Brown for Ariel**
definately mary testa
second lilias white. I need some soul in my Ursala.
then she can turn into kelli O'hara or susan egan for vanessa
Another vote for Mary Testa. She was the first actress to come to mind for me.
If "Vanessa" is going to be lipsynching, the actress doesn't have to be a singer. They could cast a gorgeous dancer from the chorus.

Sharon Wilkins would be an awesome choice, I'd agree that I would love to see her in it.
I can totally picture Sarah Uriarte Berry as Vanessa and I think she needs some more work after Piazza cause she is too good to not stick around
I can DEFINITELY see Mary Testa.
I think Marcia Lewis would be hysterical - she actually LOOKS like the cartoon.
how about jennifer holliday? Or virtually anyone who's played mama morton on broadway.
i could also see christine baranski in the part.
on another note costume wise ursula is gonna be like the bastard child of edna turnblad and elphaba

I like the idea of Mary Testa- she's fabulous, but she doesn't seem like the "Disney" kind of person. I dunno..
oooo i third sharon wilkins, she'd be amazing or melba moore
"i could also see christine baranski in the part."
Oooohhh!! Good one! I can totally see her as Ursula! Just her voice alone is perfect!
Marcia Lewis is inspired casting. She'd be great. Where the heck has she been?
I am rooting for lilias white.

Rosemary Ashe didn't pass away, did she? Someone said "Are ghosts actors" in response to her name being mentioned.
EganFan: Rosemary Ashe didn't pass away. She is currently starring as Ms. Andrew in MARY POPPINS on the West End. I SAW her. She was HYSTERICAL!
How 'bout Chita? I can totally picture her singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls."
