I like Karen, and she could certainly sing and dance the part (although I still think Patti LuPone is a fairly good dancer), but I don't know if I think she's right for it.

I don't like Karen's belting. Mandy Gonzalez would be good though.
laura benanti would be ATROCIOUS in this role.
but then again i've hated her in everything i've seen her in.
i vote they bring over elena roger.

I honestly can't help but feel that when they revive Evita the best casting would be someone I've never heard of. It seems more a star turning role to me, than a role that can be stepped into just because the woman is well known and spectacularly talented.

I would like to see either Karen or, now that you mention it, Mandy.
Karen is extremely talented but... I think she'd look very strange with blonde hair.
I agree with Craww, and would also like them to cast a slightly younger Eva.
Hmm, I wouldn't mind seeing what Josefina Scaglione could do with the role.
ray-andallthatjazz86- Ummm, I don't believe Alice Ripley has ever played Eva.
My bad, I guess people have talked about it for so long that I figured she had actually played it. Either way, plenty of non-dancer actresses have played the part.

How can anyone say Olivo is not a good singer? That is just beyond me
I don't know about Karen Olivo, can she handle A New Argentina and Rainbow High every night?
What about Anneliese Van Der Pol or Leslie Kritzer!
I adore Laura Benanti, but she is all wrong for Eva as is Josephina Scaglione.
Hell, they should just get Patti to do it again! :)
I don't know if Anneliese Van Der Pol could handle singing the two songs every night. Leslie Kritzer is casting that I would pay to see her in. It would also give her a launch too, as more of a well known name.
Benanti and Scaglione are both sopranos. Benanti is the completely wrong type. She's great but not Eva. I rather see her in BRIGADOON or MY FAIR LADY. I'd love to see Scaglione back on Broadway. It'd be great if one day she follows Josie DeGuzman's shoes and plays Sarah Brown. She would also be fantastic in CANDIDE or in LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. Sadly, we don't know if she'll ever return to Broadway due to Equity stuff.
So much for my threadjack. Karen's belt is one of my all time favorites, I just love her singing and well, her acting is just as great really. I just don't think she could handle the vocal demands of the role for a long run (but maybe I'm wrong).
I agree with you ray-andallthatjazz86, she has all that power, but how long before it gives out...

I love Karen a lot. She could give some of these songs a modern edge and make them connect with new audiences... but I don't think she is QUITE as rangey as 'Evita' demands for her to be. I think Eden hasn't really gotten the chance to show us what she can do as an actress. Really, look at the characters she's played... none of them have the amount of depth that Evita has. I think she might shock people... we have yet to see her full potential. Benanti and Scaglione are beautiful and talented but they're not belters... complete miscasting. When the Evita revival comes, I want to see them cast some one with a more modern voice. I like some of the suggestions, particularly Mandy.
I don't know Mandy, what has she done?
My top favorite is still Haviland Stillwell. That could seriously be perfection, although I know nothing of her dancing skills, her vocal chops are killer!
"I don't know if Anneliese Van Der Pol could handle singing the two songs every night."
When Anneliese was 15 she played EVITA at Buena Park Civic Theatre and got rave reviews, particularly from the L.A. Times. Thus, she has the distinction of being the youngest actress to play the role professionally. So I think she could handle the role, even more so now that she's older.
I would actually be interested in seeing an Eva who's less belty and maybe a little more opera/legit. I don't know why, I'd just be interested in a slightly different sound.

I was clearly wrong, I did not know that but Thank You. Just from my experiences with her, her voice was good , but I did not see Eva Peron

..."no no NO
she might be a mexican immigrant but eva peron was an argentinean immigrant they are different things they just go to taco bell and speak spanish that is all"...
Hello...??? Anybody there? Argentinean immigrant...??? =O
I think I might be already the tenth or over to say Karen Olivo. When I read the thread title, she came immediately to mind. Eva had dark eyes, so, with blond hair and some makeup, Karen would be great, and she can portray the strength necessary for Eva Peron.
Laura Benati...no way. And I think Josefina Scaglione is far too pretty and delicate for the role.
But...since I missed Natalie Toro as Eva, I would love to see her come back to this role
Pianolin717,
The problem with Haviland is she is a classical soprano who can belt. She isn't a trained belter. I think that for the role of Evita you need someone who is more of a belter rather then a soprano who can belt.
