I'm so terrified of being eaten for this, but I just want to know what your thoughts on this are.

She has potential. I would really LOVE for there to be a revival soon with Haviland Stillwell as Eva. She would be perfection.
She couldn't act the part to save her life. It's such a precious score, I hate it when some actresses ruin it with their screaming. No thanks. If we do get an EVITA revival, Elena Roger should play the part. If Equity won't allow it or the producers don't want her, I'd love to see Mandy Gonzales or Megan Sikora (if she can sing it) have a go at it.

I can't give into you LizzieCurry... it's a reminder of how stupid I am.

Well it looks like I'm not the first to say it.
ljay, while I love Karen too, I don't think she could do Evita. I would love to hear her sing the part but I think the dancing might catch up to her.
Espinosa auditioned for Michael Grandage's West End revival a few years ago.
I was gonna mention Karen Olivo because she would be fierce but I'm not sure if she could sing the role as written or sing the role 6x a week. If she could, God I'd love to see her do it. Her acting in the part would probably be brilliant, and yes, she could do it justice in ways that Eden Espinosa could only dream about.
EDIT: The dancing might catch up to her? I didn't realize Patti LuPone, Elane Page, Alice Ripley, and Julia Murney were all formal dancers. Karen isn't a dancer by any means, but she can most certainly do the Rob Ashford choreography.

I third Karen Olivo.
No. Eden Espinosa sounds like a screeching cat and can't act for her life.
"Karen Olivo? lol"
No, because the role of Eva requires a good singer, actress, and dancer. Karen is none of these things.
She is a great singer, a phenomenal actress, and a good dancer, just not spectacular. But if she could do it, go for it! I'd love it. But to say she is none of those things is absurd and you know it.
I'll take any... ANY... revival of this sublime score. ALW's masterpiece, if he ever had one.
The tour with The Diva Toro and Raul Esparza was lame but they were very good.
Mandy Gonzalez and Max Von Essen are my choices for the leads. (and not just because it would be a DOTV reunion, because they both have what it takes for those difficult roles).
Will Swenson or Aaron Lazar would be inspired choices for Che. Davin Burnham would be a great Che, too.
Ripley has always said its her dream role but... I'm not sure she could do it 6 times a week at this point.

So, Pianolin, since she is "just not spectacular" why should I have to pay money to see a sub-par performer on Broadway? I expect excellence in the Broadway Theatre. Not Karen Olivo.
You can go kiss her Tony award winning ass.
You didn't say that. She is a good dancer, and I liked her. However, you said she is not a good singer, not a good actress, and not a good dancer. She obviously won the Tony for a reason and it wasn't awarding her for the role either.
Will Swenson would be a BRILLIANT Che! And I would love a revival-- I really like that show, and I was too young to appreciate it when I first saw it.
I've never heard an Evita Peron who I've... actually liked. I guess I have my own mental image of what a 'good' version of the role would be. Weirdly, I've always thought my chorus teacher would be the closest to my ideal Evita, but this is six years after I was first exposed to the show, so who knows.
I'm still confused by Rentaolic's ridiculous comments about Evita being so kind of a landmark for triple threats, esp. in the dancing department. I had no idea that Patti LuPone was a fantastic dancer, or that Elane Page's dancing was the best of her time, or that more recent Evitas like Alice Ripley or Julia Murney were dancers of any kind? Karen Olivo has danced more in her career than LuPone, Page, Ripley, or Murney all who played the role at one point or another, and one of them to Tony-winning effect. So your comment made absolutely no sense. Karen is one of the best musical theater actresses of her generation, and I suspect this won't be her last Tony win. So as Ljay said and to quote Alice Ripley, you can kiss her sweet (and very sexy) ass.

She was, as memory serves, offered the alternate Eva, but she was just finishing her turn in Wicked as Idina's standby, and had closed out Brooklyn, and didn't want to be an alternate again.
