Casting for The First Wives Club
Liz Smith hits on some of the (interesting) possibilities in her column today. She writes "Lambert has his eye on Queen Latifah, Bernadette Peters, Megan Mullally, Stockard Channing (remember, in the movie she jumped off her balcony, bringing the three friends together for the funeral.) He would also enjoy luring Olivia Newton-John back to the spotlight!" All great ideas to say the least...

This just shot up very high on my upcoming new musical theatre list. BERNADETTE! MEGAN MULLALLY! STOCKARD CHANNING! In FIRST WIVES CLUB - Bitches better Hold me Back!
I am keeping my fingers crossed tighter than ever possible for this one!

I'd like to know who is being considered for which role? Interesting casting ideas, to say the least.

I'd like to see Maria Friedman do this. She's not as famous as the others, but she would be great in the show.
If the producers of this show want it to work, the one person they should NOT hire is Francesca Zambello to direct it. There isn't a more humorless person working in the theatre today. She can create stunning visual and dramatic works for the operatic stage but musical comedy? Me-thinks not.
They should not be concerned about gender in a hiring a director. Hire Jack O'Brien - now, that man knows from funny.

It's too bad that they are so stuck on having a woman director. Some male directors could bring more objectivity to the piece.
Carol Channing should play the old woman ( i can't remmber the charecters name and i watched it this mornign)

Oh, not Latifah. Whose part will she get? Sarah Jeccica's?
Oh please bring Megan back to Broadway. Please!
When it said Channing, I thought it meant Carol... and was just a little confused/scared... I mean, most of the parts really wouldn't fit her... lol
Hello she can totally play the old society woman!

Once again Loretta Swit is overlooked. Are any of the possibilities mentioned Polish? No. My conspiracy theory continues to grow!!!!!
Channing, Mullally and Bernadette would be great.

why not put Sarah Jessica and Bette in it??? and why not Goldie Hawn? I mean, wasnt' she a good dancer? and she was supposed to be in Chicago the movie as Roxie, right?
I think it is time Miss Leslie Ann Warren made her way back to Broadway. This would be a great vehicle for her.

Yes Mullaly. I wanted her in Damn Yankees, but this will do.

Yessss!
Here's how I see it:
Elise - Megan Mullally
Annie - Leslie Ann Warren
Brenda - Stockard Channing
OR
Elise - Bernadette
Brenda- Queen Latifah
Annie - Olivia Newton-John
Does anyone remember that Stockard Channing was in the original movie version of "The First Wives Club"? She played the friend in the beginning who commits suicide.
Yes, Stockard played Cynthia Swan Griffin. The woman who's suicide puts the plot in motion.
"The old society woman" aka Gunilla Garson Goldberg is something I can see Carole Shelley playing, personally.
As for the casting rumors...Bernadette Peters? I think I just peed myself a little bit. I have been mentioning her for this show for ages...simply the fact that they're considering her is enough to make me shout from the rooftop! As for Channing and Mullally...they would just complete the circle of amazement that this show is sure to be.
Ah, sweet mystery of life at last I've found you!
Annnd if this musical does happen, I say we bring back Marcia Gay Harden to play the Therapist/Other Woman.

Megan is doing her talk show, so I doubt she'll be doing the show... sorry.
If Megan Mullally got Brenda, I would pee myself twice and die. Death, plague, famine, poverty...NOTHING could stop me seeing that show! To quote Jack McFarland, "I WOULD DIE! I WOULD JUST DIE!!!"
