Wait! Doesn't the timing of Howard's five-week hiatus destroy any Tony nod possibility?
I haven't seen the show yet, and maybe he doesn't have much hope anyway, but I would think his managment would want him to get a nod. Isn't that the oft-cited reason why TV and film stars are reluctant to replace on Bway - that there is no chance for award recognition?
And his hiatus is during period the peek period for voters to see the show.

"And his hiatus is during period the peek period for voters to see the show."
It also starts when the show would have been closed were it not for the extension, which was dependant on the cast and wasn't solidified until very recently. The show will extend one more time through August, in time for Equus to load in.

Posted: 2/21/08 at 3:59pmThis production is an absolute MESS. Howard's performance is a joke - couldn't they find a man who was at least comfortable playing someone sexually tortured? Rashad is playing a hyped up version of everything else she's done. James Earl Jones is giving a senile performance of his FIELD OF DREAMS character. And the only thing going for it is Anika Noni Rose if Debbie Allen had at least directed it in the correct darn period!

Posted: 2/21/08 at 4:10pmThe performances are laughable, except for Rose's which has potential to be brilliant if she hadn't been staged to play it like a very awkward "hot chick from High School". Howard's isn't really laughable - just plain awful.

Posted: 2/21/08 at 5:08pmI dont really consider myself to be a harsh critic, but this show is painful !! Anika Noni Rose is the only redeeming part of this production. It is awful !!!
