Catch Me If You Can, updates?

Does anyone know what's going on with the show? Does it have a theatre? Is it making it's way to Broadway? When are Butler & Tviet's contracts up with the shows they're in now? I saw it in Seattle and I really liked what I saw but I'm eager to see the improvements they can make.

I believe it's been determined (though not officially announced) that due to the schedules of the creative team (they're involved in that Phantom 2 thing), it won't be arriving on Broadway until the fall.

^In agreement.

There has been NO announcement whatsoever about the future of CMIYC. Many theaters are already booked, so an appropriate one might not even be available.

Tveit's contract is up in late winter (Feb, I think) But no reason he couldn't extend if N2N can survive the harsh winter.

Did you read the thread? There is NO current information -- it is practically impossible for it to hit the boards this Fall. the EARLIEST it would be here would be late Winter or the Spring -- but most feel it won't hit until NEXT FALL -- 2010/11 season.

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

Reading last weeks cast listing of THE ADAMS FAMILY and seeing Rachel de Benedict's name listed as an ensemble player tells me something. I saw her twice in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and she was excellent (garnering good reviews) in the leading role of Tveit's sexy French mother and Wopat's ex-wife having more stage time than Kerry Butler plus a catchy second act bossa nova solo of her own. Unless she has an out clause in her contract I highly doubt she would tie herself up with a ensemble role in FAMILY if there were any chance of CMIYC opening in the same spring season of 2010.

It's spelled Addams and Rachel de Benedet.

Also, if she is in the ensemble, is she going to be an understudy for Morticia?

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

Glad someone asked, i've been wondering myself where CMIYC is at...sounds like we have a bit to wait! I heard Tveit's contract was up Feb while most of the other cast of N2N is march (though that could be wrong). Even if Catch Me doesn't hit broadway till fall, how much earlier will they start rehearsing? Not sure how that whole process works...but i'd guess it's very possible for Tveit to leave N2N in Feb. and still not start Catch me until Fall (esp since he clearly deserves a vacation!).

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

Debenedet's part could easily be cut from the show and nobody would really miss it. It's one of the many extraneous, pointless things in the show.

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

At the Sondheim on Sondheim stage door, Tom Wopat said that he recently, or is going to, do a reading of the show. So maybe he'll be in the show if, or when, it comes to Broadway.

Verge will be over in time, even if it extends. If he's willing to go from one to another within a month or so, he could do it.

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

So if Tom Wopat does decide to take on the project, I guess he'll be taking over Norbert Leo Butz's part?

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

No... I'd image Wopat would be the father. ...right?

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

I'd think Wopat would play the same part - Frank Abagnale, Sr. It was by no means a small part, so I don't think there would be any reason that he would switch roles.

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

Why are people making guesses? Wopat already did the premiere production. Of course he would stay in the same role.

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

I believe that Wopat played the father in the Seattle engagement, and I know he has done workshops of the show in the past. I thought I heard something about the show playing Toronto in the fall with a spring arrival on Broadway?
In the meantime, I'm still confused about Women on the Verge...it is for sure a limited run?

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

LCT productions are limited runs, yes. But some of them like Piazza and South Pacific do extend indefinitely.

re: Catch Me If You Can, updates?

Sorry, everybody... I just realized that he played the father in Seattle. Of course he would be staying with the role. My apologies.
