"Ms. Blanchett, who is portraying Blanche DuBois in a production for the the Sydney Theater Company, was performing a fight scene with Joel Edgerton, who is playing Stanley Kowalski. During the scene, Ms. Blanchett was accidentally struck on the head by a prop radio held by Mr. Edgerton. Agence France-Presse quoted audience members as saying that Ms. Blanchett continued to act in the scene, but she had blood on her head and on her neck."

I hope she recovers and is back on the boards quick.
Meanwhile, I'd like to have words with that prop.
*crosses fingers*
I just hope this doesn?t affect the BAM run...by all accounts, the injury wasn't serious enough to warrant a delay or cancellation.
Don't nobody hurt my Cate. I find that prop and I'll kill it dead f'hurtin' my Blanchett!!!
Does Stanley hit Blanche with a radio in the script?
She's expected back in the show tonight. This won't have any effect on the run's further engagements. And Bobby, I believe you are right.
K, I didn't think it was in there. Seems too bold of a directing choice.
How shocking for the audience. Imagine...
"No honey, it's just a really just a great effect."
"Oh, wait, nope, Blanche is gone. Huh. I don't remember this. Stella is goin to be upset. How is she going to bury the body with a new baby in the house?"

"Ms. Blanchett was accidentally struck on the head by a prop radio held by Mr. Edgerton."
There seems to be a concerted effort not to blame Edgerton, when of course it seems probable that he accidentally whacked her with it.
Radios don't kill people; PEOPLE kill people!
During the scene, Joel threw a radio, as per the script, but it accidentally struck Cate on the head.

Culled from a few different news sources:
An eyewitness tells the Sydney Morning Herald, "He (Edgerton) was supposed to throw it (the radio) out the window, but it sort of slipped and hit her in the head. She was so good, she just went straight on."
"Another actor lifted the prop above his head, and she somehow sustained a minor blow to the head," McKeough said.
A witness, who was at last night's performance at the Sydney Theatre in Walsh Bay, said Edgerton accidentally hit Blanchett in the head with a '60s-style radio. The impact could be heard in the audience and the actress and STC co-artistic director fell down on all fours. Several people said they could see blood streaming down the back of Blanchett's head. She went off stage to fetch clothes for Stanley's wife, Stella (Robin McLeavy), and used some of them to try to staunch the flow of blood. "He [Edgerton] was supposed to throw it [the radio] out the window, but it sort of slipped and hit her in the head ? she was so good, she just went straight on," said the witness who declined to give her name.
