Do you think it would be possible Catherine Zeta-Jones would make a trip to do the stage version of the movie that won her an Oscar any time soon?? She seems to be getting rave reviews in ALNM and seems to be a contender for a Tony...and doing a show in which she is associated with (via the film version) would help boost the appeal of this show slightly.
Any thoughts??

No. She said recently she had plenty of offers, but she waited for the right show to come along. She felt Night Music was the right piece for her to make her debut in.
She is not going to be the 100th Velma replacement in a 14 year old revival.

Here is the interview
There was obviously buzz during Chicago about you and Broadway being a match. Did you consider it then?
There was a lot of interest, but itâ??s taken me a long time to find the show Iâ??m doing right now. Theyâ??ve asked me to do many high-kicking musicals, and I of course respect the community I was born into, but I didnâ??t want to do what was expected.
What makes this the right show to make your debut with?
Itâ??s A Little Night Music, directed by Trevor Nunn with a score by Stephen Sondheim! This is an almost Chekhovian play that happens to have the most wonderful music. I always wanted to create roles, not take over. This is the first revival of A Little Night Music since 1973, and I feel that with the way Trevor has directed it and the amount of time thatâ??s passed since it was last seen, this is like getting to create that role, and that is a thrill. Desiree is also predominantly an acting role, with the additional beauty of the score. I get one really amazing song [â??Send in the Clownsâ??], but even that is more about acting. In working with [Sondheim] Iâ??ve discovered he wrote it to be spoken more than sung.

That would be a terrible career move, and I hate making this kind of statements but she is so above being in a show that casts so many people who have no business being on a Broadway stage. Also, Zeta-Jones' brilliant take on Velma doesn't work for the revival's more vaudeville and less serious approach. It'd be great to see her perform "All That Jazz" live at some benefit or to hear her recording of some of the songs that were cut, but her performance as Velma Kelly already lives on in the film, there's no need for her to do the stage version.
I hope this isn't her only Broadway outing, it'll be great if she started doing more stage work, especially since she hasn't gotten any film role as good as Velma since she won the Oscar.

I agree with everything Ray said. I actually asked her at the stage door if she has ever sung any of the songs from Kiss of the Spider Woman, and she said she hasn't. Then I told her that the score would perfect for her voice.
I hope she gave some thought to what I said. She'd be perfect in that musical.
With that said, her perfomance in Night Music was truly mesmerizing.
