I noticed a lyric change when Alex performed on The View. (WOW...what a performance)
Does this happen often?

kinda random to change the lyrics for this one........ as if saying "....and some batteries" is more offensive than "ain't gonna schuck itself" (which they kept on tv)??!!!?
Kinda shocked with what they landed on…they couldn’t come up with an actual rhyme? The adjusted lyric made zero sense. Still a great performance tho.

I wouldn't say it's common, but it certainly happens from time to time if there's something the daytime censors wouldn't approve of (although I agree that this particular change doesn't seem to accomplish anything).
They may also occasionally change something to hide a certain plot point. First example that comes to mind is when Dirty Rotten Scoundrels opened, they would regularly have them perform "Dirty Rotten Number" but rewrote the lyric that spoils the plot twist so as not to ruin it for the TV audiences (who they hope will buy tickets).
I always get a kick out of “Totally Stuck” from the Spring Awakening GMA performance
I've seen this done before on daytime shows, but, as others have noted, it is usually handled better.

One that sticks with me is the Be More Chill performance on GMA. They changed "How was class? / You look like ass / What's wrong?" to "How was gym? / Girl, you look grim / What's wrong?"
The show that handled it best was Beetlejuice. They had a new lyric for basically every tv performance they did, from the Today Show to the Tony Awards, and I honestly like some of those lyrics over the ones in the real show, like the one at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade:
"You're doomed, and so's your turkey
One day breathing, next, you're jerky
The Netherworld's like Albuquerque,
The queso's amazing,
The whole giving thanks thing!"

Beetlejuice really had the best lyric updates, I think I enjoyed every one and they were all equally clever as the original lyrics.

When Six performed “Ex Wives” on daytime tv for some reason the line “Prick up your ears” was either cut or literally bleeped out for comic effect. It really messed with the flow of the song except the one time a literal bleep sound effect was used because Sam Pauly made it a funny little moment. I always thought this was weird considering “prick” isn’t commonly used in America
