I just don't understand what's going on with the L in "Chaplin"? Is it supposed to be the flag for an eighth note formed by the P? Why is it backwards?
And why is there a musical note in the logo at all? If they had to go the terribly literal "musical = music" route, it would've been wittier to incorporate musical rests in the logo instead of musical notes, given the subject's legendary status as a silent film star.

Chaplin did compose the music to the song Smile.

Notwithstanding the fact that the marquee sucks and the title was much better as Limelight, the musical is quite slick and very enjoyable. I expect that most of you will have a pretty good opinion of the musical. I doubt that even one person will find fault with Rob McClure. His Chaplin is extraordinary.
If they were able to find one or two good melodies to add they will do fine.

sidenote:
When Robert Downy's Chaplin came out on the big screen.
A friend and I went. 20 minutes in- we were really impressed that they decided to keep the film silent in respect to the genre.
Then the movie stopped- and they started the film again - WITH SOUND!
The projector was screwed and there was no sound in the theatre.
we enjoyed the film as silent--- kinda wished this musical was too.
hate the logo
LOVE Rob McClure and so happy for him.
it will be a great vehicle for him

CATS, remind me to fish compliments from you more often. And really, this would just be an excuse to rip off Donmar's original Cabaret revival poster. Instead of Sally... Charlie.

^That would be a pretty risky design. People might accuse the producers of being nazis.

I don't hate the marquee, but without knowing the show, I think it's hard to read too much into the logo.
I just don't see this as being a "must see." I mean, does Chaplin have some big 11 o'clock number? Eh. But happy to see an original-ish musical on Broadway.

To answer an earlier post, I agree that the idea of a musical about the arguably the world's most famous silent film star is totally ridiculous. Chaplin movies are famous for great music, but I find it hard to picture Chaplin himself singing for any length of time.
A friend told me he saw a preview for group sales and said the music wasn't anything special.

Have to agree with previous comments that the logo looks dated and time-period-inappropriate. I don't know if that typeface was in common use during the 1930s, but it looks very 1970s to me.
I'm a little surprised that they have that huge ad up already, 2 months before the show starts. Renting that space can't be cheap.
