Hey!
I was listening to a few chart songs on my I-pod today, and couldn't help but picture them on stage. No story behind it, just certain actors and actresses popped up, singing and dancing to this with ensemble etc.
But I was curious as to which songs (that are not Broadway songs, and do not need to be singles from an artist, perhaps an unknown song on their album) people on this board could see on a stage?
I could see...
Adele - Rolling In The Deep...The revenge-filled 11 o'clock number.
Five For Fighting - Superman...The sentimental song for the "heart-throb" of the musical.
Katy Perry - Not Like The Movies...The "I wish" type song of the show.
Kerry Ellis/Shirley Bassey - Diamonds Are Forever...no comment...
Lady Gaga - Teeth...A Dark descent into the mind of a character, which could have a lengthy dance-break.
Rihanna - Man Down...I felt this as an opening number to a show, as it's quite a plot filled song, which set a mood as well as letting us know what has happened.
Sharleen Spiteri - I'm Going To Haunt You...Just a fun number about love-grudging.
Obviously they would need to change the Intstrumentation, and change lyrics and perhaps even make it a duet etc...add dance breaks? hahaa
But what can you all see? And feel free to give details on what can see on stage with that song exactly!
Thanks!
What is it with people who say "I-pod" and not "iPod"?
It may be wrong, but that's how i spell it, and will continue to.
Thanks!
Don't you just love prideful ignorance?
So you would rather make some kind of personal statement than spell a word correctly. Yeah, ok, whatever.
There's a live recording of Mississippi Goddam where Nina Simone says "This is a show tune, but the show hasn't been written for it... yet."
Not this version, but it's worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAYVaHEMK0I
It's not a personal statement. I just don't like when people go on about spelling errors and the like, everyone makes mistakes, I'm living with it...i think everyone else can, there's bigger problems out there than not spelling words correctly.
I can see what she is talking about with that song, it's quite musical in it's structure and lyrical content. Thanks canmark! I need to buy a version of that song somewhere haha.

But it's not a mistake. You said yourself said that you know it's wrong but you'll spell it the way you want to. Since you know you're spelling it wrong it can't be considered a mistake.

Actually, I think it leads to some of the "bigger problems". Unwillingness to bend, admit when you're wrong, and take constructive criticism.
I know every generation has worried about the next one but I am very concerned with the twitter/text generation. The unwillingness to spell things correctly and use proper sentances WILL be an issue when they're entering the workforce. Unless employers start to accept resumes written in "tweet" form.
Okay, right, fine.
I'm wrong about spelling iPod as I-Pod...
Can we please stay on subject of this thread now please? =)
Thanks!
I find a lot of Katy Perry's music to be very theatrical. And I hate to say it but I actually think her music would make quite a funky Jukebox musical. HotNCold, Waking up in Vegas and as you say, Not Like the Movies, I can really imagine on stage.
Katy Perry I used to hate as a performer, but appreciated her songs. It wasn't until i found out she wrote her own songs that I started to fully appreciate her now! Would love to hear a jukebox musical with her songs!
Thanks!
