re: Chelsea Handler discussed Nicole Ritchie going into CHICAGO!

Watch the clip again -- they're not talking about her being IN the show... they are discussing her being OFFERED the role, et al.

Their whole bit is basically... is CHICAGO's standards now so low as to offer Nicole Ritchie a role? Case in point -- Ashlee Simpson and the ever-popular Lisa Rhinna. They're not saying CHICAGO is now a joke, but are questioning if it is now becoming one with this last set of casting choices.

Get it?

I agree with what was said on the clip. Unfortunately, the Weisslers are hiring people that make absolutely no sense. How great would it be to have these two great roles played by solid actors with real skills, instead of D-list celebrities.

I couldn't even watch that all the way through.

Who are these judgmental f*cks?

It sickens me how someone actually pays them to sit around and make judgments about people they don't even know.

Another reason to stay far away from TV. And more proof as to why people in small towns are so bigoted. They just sit around and watch this crap on TV instead of getting out and meeting real people.

ljay, I wouldn't say that all the stars they've cast have been good. Think Melanie Griffith.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I can't wait to see Sinbad in Les Mis
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

jv92 -- you're one of the reasons people and things get misquoted.

If you watch again, she clearly asks "...when did CHICAGO become the joke musical?" She didn't state that -- she asked that.

2 totally different things, but unfortunately... most only hear what you did.

Think Melanie Griffith.

- Why is everyone telling me to think tonight? Melanie Griffith received a rave review from Ben Brantley.

here's a quote from Brantley

a sensational Roxie, possibly the most convincing I have seen.

"Who are these judgmental f*cks?"

Isn't that what people on this board do? And the rest of your post, you're not being judgemental yourself? Seriously?

It's fine not to like what they said but to essentially take that little clip and turn it into the downfall of civilization is a bit much.

Foster,

If you ever got a chance to watch Chelsea Handler's other show, I can tell you that she so not aimed at average, conservitave middle America. Though they would laugh and get some of her jokes, I see her more on par with Family Guy, where if you had a little more knowledge about certain things, you would get so mush more humor out of it.

Anyway, I thought the whole bit was funny, and it does exempllify how (sadly) Chicago is slowly headed down the loo with all the stunt casting (and I clearly heard her say "When did Chicago BECOME the joke musical"). They weren't making fun of the show. Just the C-list celebrities that go into it (though I agree that many have actually turned out not too bad, but then again, I'm the one who saw Alan Thicke get a one minute extended applause by the people around me when he was introduced at "All I Care About is Love". Now that's sad when Seattleites think that he's a celebrity worthy of that much applause!)

re: Chelsea Handler discussed Nicole Ritchie going into CHICAGO!

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with all these commercial shows. Many Americans would rather watch some has-been (usually not trained in dance or voice) plod her way though a popular show, instead of seeing someone they don't know, and have never seen before sing, dance, and act at a higher level of talent. America Idol and dancing with the stars (while both can be entertaining) have lead so many of the general public to believe that ANYONE can do it. That is why most performers/actors/dancers still do not get real respect for their occupation. It is really sad. So YES chicago has become a joke. When I saw it, the ushers were shouting at the audience members before the show in the most unprofessional manner. I felt like I was at the fair grounds and they were hurdling in the cattle. There was no respect for the theatre involved. And I saw Brooke Shields, who wasn't bad, in comparison to the ensemble which was tired/bored/and for the most part completely uninterested-which may be due to the fact that they were sick of watching a celebrity take on a leading role that many of the female ensemble members probably could have performed much better.
Look around the room, all you see are imitations of imitations. I invented myself.
